Our oldest cat George has always been a bit of a rambler. Sometimes goes on a jaunt for a couple of days but then reappears with a look on his face as much to say what is all the fuss about. However has now been gone for four days and can't help feeling he may have gone for good this time Have been sooo looking forward to Equifest but his disappearance has really put a damper on things.

I do hope he comes home. I always worry when they go off. and its sad not knowing.
I have found if a cat is sick it will try to get back home even my stable cats want a fuss if they are ill.
They hate travelling in the rain so perhaps he's just delayed. Fingers crossed for George.

Thank you gilbertgrape. Yes that's the thing, the not knowing. I had a cat many years ago who was always going off. Eventually she went one day and never came back. We searched for days. My husband eventually found her. It was very hard to accept she had been run down but at least we knew. Currently sitting up waiting for other cat to come in. With 5 am start in the morning for equifest I should really be in bed but so worried about losing twinkles too.

When they just vanish it's hard! I lost one mother cat ( with weaned kittens) and luckily a neighbour spotted what had happened to her( RTA) so I was sad but at least I knew.
At home one of mine (who had never wandered ) went away for 3 weeks and returned very thin and covered in ticks. We never knew where he went.I think he was chased away and lost his way home. x

My beloved's old boy has just gone too, despite searching all his favourite haunts with no success, to be honest I think it was his last hunting journey. I hope Tom was not in pain or distressed in anyway and is happily mousing in paradise, maybe he has made friends with George

Oh gillwhales I'm sorry. Hope your precious pet comes back soon Our George has returned this morning, been gone a week! He looks fine but very tired and hungry, don't know where he has been! Think he may have gone out again but he is and always has been an outdoor cat. I would love to keep him in so that he never goes missing again but that is just not right.

So pleased your beloved George is home! Yes he's a roamer but he loves his life so long may he continue to enjoy it.

really pleased to hear that George has been a dirty stopout. Sadly tom has gone to mouse in heaven, he was an old boy who had had a good life. I might sound hard but he was not mine and did not live with me. Always sad when you loose a pet.

Ahhh! Really pleased he came home - what a relief. We had three cats, all from the same litter, one of which would wander for up to 4 days at a time and then come home, perfectly fine. Then, one day, he just didn't come back, and he never has. However, he was chipped and I put leaflets through hundreds of letterboxes and never heard a thing, so I'm convinced he's around somewhere, maybe further away than I would imagine, living a happy life. We have cats on our livery yard who just 'turned' up - they must have been someone's beloved pets once. My in-laws recently took in a 'stray' but he was chipped and when they traced the owner he said he hadn't seen the cat for over a year, even though he only lived a few hundred yards away! My in-laws have now adopted the cat as his old owner didn't want him back ( ) and he has a lovely life; I just hope that's the same for little Basil - he was 'mine' so I miss him terribly, even now, three years on. He was super gorgeous and would put his paws round my neck - it's making me cry even now
