I'm sure that equifest was good this year, with some cracking weather! However, there must be the down points and up points! So I thought I'd make this so you can all discuss it together Can I just add, that this page was not made to be disrespectful towards any of the Equifest organisers and staff. It was simply made for people to express the feelings towards the show, and discuss the downpoints, which can be addressed in the near future! I can only apologize if anyone took offence to it.

Too many open ponies jumping in the novice classes! I agree I know in one novice workers class the girl who won has won the open workers at equifest for the last two years would have thought that they would not be able to enter novice classes.

I thought that the Equifest novice rules were never to have won a 1st- & I'm sure many ponies I've seen in the novice results have won a 1st before. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I wasn't at the show.

First time at equifest and overall a fab show and have come home after a v enjoyable week, but being parked beyond the end of the BSPA rings and having a blue stable that was a way i nto blue area was hard work esp as i couldnt find a way to get to ring 10 and 11 without walking all the way around past the whp rings (due to trade stand area). So I too have very sore feet!! I was a little surprised to see that duration people were given the longest trek and day people parked v close to stables. However apart from this I had a fab time and will be back! Thought stable staff were fab and friendly and all officials that I dealt with were also v friendly and helpful. Overall well done team Equifest!!!!!!

Novice rules says:-not to have won an open class at an affiliated show on or before the 1st of January in the current year.
As for HOYS ponies competing in Restricted classes the rules stated that as long as the had not qualified for HOYS, RI or Olympia in 2011 or 2012 they were eligible to compete. People are too quick to criticize before they have checked the rules.
Not sure on the rule for what bit could be worn in the novice classes as can't see anything in the rules but did see a few in doubles which is very sad to see. A true novice should be in a snaffle.

Had a great week, no complaints. I think the pony that won the restricted had previously won at hoys over 2 years ago so was actually eligible to do the class according to equifest rules

I was a bit shocked to see this thread. After all the work that goes into it, why is it automatically assumed that loads of people would have stuff to 'rant' about? I had a brilliant 4 days and am sad to be home Our results weren't great by any means but we had fun at our first stay away show (and got a tan!!). The only things that would improve it for me would be to have dressage marks displayed. I do loads of dressage and like to know where I come in relation to the rest of the class and see the range of marks awarded. I presume all marks will have been written down somewhere? That could just be pinned to the little dressage hut I think my horse would have been happier in a stable that didn't have a grill over the door too, was a bit claustrophobic, but I guess that's just luck of the draw. The whole arriving-getting stable-getting bedding-unloading horsey process was very smooth!

Blue stables were miles away from the camping! The layout needs changing! My mum had to drive me so I could feed my pony in the morning - and we weren't the furthest away from the stables! The classes were huge and there were know official mark sheets. I know that some of the judges in my ring had note pads, but I would've loved to have some marks available to see! A judge in the M&M Lead Rein classes said that my friend was dropped out of the placings due to her have knots in the reins, yet 1st, 2nd and 3rd had knots in the reins! We missed the pre - judging of the Adult & Child class because we were confused with the time table, we were still in classes and the announcements were really hard to hear at our tent. Apart from these 4 points, it was a success! Will hopefully come back next year!

There was definitely a pony that won a Restricted class that had picked up its HOYS ticket early this year. Not sure how they got away with it tbh!

Novice rules says:-not to have won an open class at an affiliated show on or before the 1st of January in the current year. Thought it was! Yet looking at the results many of these ponies, have won at least one first at an affiliated show. Why can't people stick to the rules?

Can I add, that this thread has been made, so people can discuss what the down points were to equifest, and these can be addressed for next years show. I am well aware that A LOT of effort and organising went into the show. But if people don't say what the problems are, then how are they to know?! It's also good for people that missed out on equifest, as they can see what they peeed out on!
This thread was not made for arguing.

This thread was not made for arguing. I think the title of the thread is very negative and makes it seem as though thats how it was intended which is rather disrespectful tbh.

The name has been changed, and I've added to the comment I left.
As you know, everything good, also has a bad side to it. It was not created to be disrespectful. It was simply created so people can discuss the negatives. People can also talk about the positives if they wish.
It was not made to cause arguments. Just for people to simply discuss.

Totally agree rockafella - we have been since the start and have to say always enjoy it but this one for us was one of the best (maybe the weather helped!) We were in red stables and had a long walk to our rings however the fact that the M&Ms had been moved to larger rings from last year was a real positive. So thanks to the team for taking these comments on board last year. Our stables were great no complaints at all, but I do understand the Blue one's were tight for space. I also think the timings were better, we managed to get to all our classes even with long walks between rings and stables and the PA system was superb. Did miss one prelim judging which was a shame becuase the indoor ring evening performance was running late but hey ho it was too hot anyway! Security team were superb, friendly and effecient - office staff as always fantastic and so lovely to have such a wonderful array of stalls (even if we didn't have much time for shopping!) Loved the use of the main ring for ridden classes - made me feel emotional remembering the old PUK days! Exhausted - but happy! Hope I can make it to next year but might well invest in a buggy or a new knee!

its the first time ive been but i must say i was a bit disappointed with it all - we were miles away from our stables - had lots of trouble trying to get hook up as they were saying they were full - so had to come open more boxes - i purchased a car pass for £5 - but saw people without them drive straight in - so why did i have to pay for one! waste of money!!! one pony was bitten on the 1st night there had a bad reaction & needed the emergency vet - we waited 1hour 10mins for the vet to then be told the emergency number the office had was the wrong one!! i did find most fellow competitors very friendly tho and did well in my classes - just would of liked the stables closer as my boys 1st time away from home & had to walk miles to keep a check on him

I HAVE TO ADD WE THOROUGHLY ENJOYED OUR FIRST TIME AT EQUIFEST. FANTASTIC SHOW, AMAZING SHOWGROUND, AND VERY HELPFUL STAFF. WILL BE BACK NEXT YEAR. Re Novice Classes. The horse/pony should have not won a 1st in ANY type of class before 1st of January. There were horses forward to Novice Supreme which had won a class before 1 st of January, including 2 horses that have been to HOYS before in a different type of class, than entered for as a novice at Equifest. Equifest are aware of this. This is different to BSPS ruling !!! Novice hunters and hacks can be ridden in doubles. Re Restricted. The horse/pony must not have competed at HOYs, Olympia or RIHS in 2011 or 2012 ALSO this rule applies to the jockey as well. I know this rule wasn't totally clear as we got caught out by entering a novice but couldn't go in as my jockey rode at HOYS last year.

Just felt I had to bring up an incident in the Equifest 128cm sp class. A young child was left completely on her own as her mum was not allowed in the ring to strip as she didnt have a hat on. Whilst I completely believe that anyone entering the ring should be dressed appropritley I felt that this was extremely unfair on a young child and a bit of common sense wouldnt of gone amiss!!! Equifest is not an affiliated show and a lot of the qualifiers come from local shows and for a lot of competitors this would be the biggest show they have been to. Surely it would of been better to explain that it is appropriate to wear a hat in the ring and let it go on that occasion rather than leave a young child visibly upset? Thank goodness for a very kind steward who stepped in to help after it was explained to the judge and he still said no!! Dont like to moan but it would be nice to see encouragement and help at this level. I hope the people concerned werent to put off and enjoyed the rest of the show.

My only negative is I walked miles and miles and did not shed one pound. . . . Terrible My positive is my stables were lovely, the people in our stable area were so nice, supportive and friendly Facilities were fantastic. Catering was 1st class we bought sushi, cheese from the cheese man etc. Nobody in the showers when I went, hot and clean. Feed/straw delivered immediately. Friendly office staff/stewards/judges.
Big thumbs up

We generally had a good time at Equifest and thought that the rings were a good size and the workers courses were well built and fair. Also we were allowed to change a class which looked as though it was going to clash (all be it for a class on another day).
A couple of points that I would like to make though -
1. I can't understand when you have 2 judges and large classes how the results can be decided without using some kind or marking system or notes. There is no way that you can possibly remember how every single pony went / looks and then match them with a fellow judge. How many times have you seen a pony go extremely well but then strip badly / have conformation faults or vice versa, which completely alters which place it will finish in. In a couple of classes we watched it looked as though the judges were taking turns pulling them out of the line up to place them. Then in others, ponies were left in the back line, suddenly pulled in above other ponies that had already been placed as the judges appeared to have missed them out. The ponies lower down the line were then sent back as they were lower than 10th.
2. Could late entries not be taken on the day of the class that you want to compete in. Not everyone is there for the duration and can enter the day before.
3. Would it be possible to open the indoor for warm up sessions prior to the classes starting in the morning for 10-15 min slots for a charge to allow ponies & children to have a spin round before going in there for classes.
One conformation judge was so intent on giving information about where different breeds of pony came from that she didn't actually walk round the ponies to judge how they were put together.
We also saw the little girl in the 128 SP class, she was very upset and didn't really know what to do, one of the fellow competitors grooms took the saddle off for her and the steward resaddled.

Regarding the travellers on Saturday night. Yes they were there as my daughter drove past them outside the perimeter fence. About 10 white transit vans or similar with trasilers on the back. I was watching the Evening Performance & my daughter rang me to tell me to let Betsy know which I did straight away. The security team went into action & removed them very quickly. I think the travellers might have taken advantage but the Equifest team sorted it promptly so as JonP said , people spreading rumours does not help at all.
