Since joining this site I've noticed that most of the people who post on here seem to have showing as their main interest.
So I'm wondering are there any members out there who do other stuff. It would be really interesting to hear from you on what you do with your horses, how you are coping with the weather etc.
Not that theres anything wrong with showing, just trying to widen the discussions a bit! So all of you out there who do something different (competitive or not) get on line and tell us what you're doing.

Showing, dressage, endurance, combined training, show jumping, hacking. Currently deciding whether I'm brave enough to go back to x-country after a break since 1988. Would also like to get into driving trials but current pony is not safe driving material. Non horsey interests - cars - fast ones & any motorsport, photography

Mara - Do you do this all on the one pony or do you have more than one? If its just the one it's a brilliant all rounder!

Just the one & why not - he's a Highland pony & they are known for their versatililty Endurance has been a bit of a non-starter this year - he's fit enough for a pleasure/training ride but the rides that haven't clashed with affiliated shows etc have been cancelled due to weather/ground conditions. Am also threatening to get him going under side saddle next year but I don't think I'll ever be brave enough to do heritage workers side saddle - I'm only just brave enough to do them astride

He sounds fantastic - Give me a native any day. (thats personal choice - each to their own!) Do you have any pictures? (Don't ask me how you get them on here, I'm not very technical!)

My showing has been curtailed by the very sad loss of my mum (my lorry driver) so I am now concentrating on more local events like cross country, dressage and even ventured into some show-jumping (slightly disasterous that one).
I do miss the showing but I am enjoying the challenge of other events. However, I find dressage just as political as showing.
But, more to the point, things have been put into perspective for me this year. We had to sell the 2 youngsters and now I consider myself lucky just to have the one pony ( a NF) who is a fun all-rounder and one of the most loving ponies I have ever known.

Horsey wise I enjoy dressage and some (as sedate as possible) hunting And just general random hacking! Non horsey wise, I enjoy football and support Chelsea and love tennis

Nikki - so sorry for your loss.
I have found it difficult to ride as much as I would like to recently, due to my husband having been ill, but I do think that even just a steady hack in the fresh air helps to get you through the tough times.

My pony always gets skitted for being too pretty for his working hunter classes, because basicly he is an overgrown show pony(by 2cm!We resisted the peer pressure to try and get him measured in and accepted him for who he is!anyhow if i am ever lucky enough to go champion at hoys atleast i won't have to worry about being measured out!haha!), however dainty and fragile people think he is, he has still won open working hunter and intermediate show riding type classes in the showing world, as well as representing the pony club at area show jumping, eventing, dressage and tetrathlon. He also loves a good BSJA jump off and we do British Eventing! Show pony judges almost die when i tell them!
I also still have my first pony club pony and we still compete in individual and team mounted games competitions.
Away from horses i am studying for my degree in graphic design, and a keen animal artist (i am still working on my website!nearly ready)

WEll since the Show's have been very much a wash out this year. My boy & I have been having lots of fun just hacking out He has never done as much hacking, he has taken to it like a duck to water and enjoys it as much as showing. So if he is enjoying it.. so I'm I Don't do Jumping, as I don't bounce when I fall, anymore, I just go thud! and the stressage thing is just that STRESS! so will be happy just to keep hacking out No horsey interests cooking for my OH well he has to make the most of it! At least he doesn't have to live on pizza for 6 months. My freeza is full of the Bl00dy things Roll on 2008! thats all I can say

You're so right Millie's Mum - hacking is so therapeutic. Passers- b y must think I am bonkers as I spend most of my hacks talking to my pony And it helps that she seems to love her hacks - she will go all day if I let her.
Apart from my love of horses, I am still in full-time education so not much time for other hobbies although I love swimming and going to health clubs and having beauty treatments when I have enough money saved (about once a year!).
