Hi. Can anyone recommend a good calmer supplement? I have a 5 year old section B gelding who has a very sweet temperament but has a nervous edge to him and tenses up when ridden for no apparent reason! I have had his back, teeth and tack checked and he can go very sweetly but spends so much time being tense and nervy that it's difficult to school him. I'd just like to give a supplement a try to see if it helps.

Magnitude or Nettex Carl Hester both work well on nervy ponies

natural-equine.co.uk/They have a number of different herbs and remedies for all sorts of different problems, if you ring them up and tell them exactly what your ponies doing they are very helpful and will suggest the right herbs for you

Cow mag (it is a magnesium supplement that works really well and is incredibly cheap you can buy a big bag of it for £10 and it will last for 2 years or the other option is magic but is very pricey

I have a very similar second D mare, she is very gentle on the ground and is very quiet, but when you get on her she is very tense. We have tried all sorts of calmers but with her it is not magnesium based but she can't have any sugar has to have all fibre in her feed etc! Andi have found the most effective for her has been brewers yeast which helps with their nervousness, she also has oxyshot on show days!x

Ditto Equine America so Calm Plus - I use everyday for my stressy mare.
Show days - I top her up with two syringes of DEFUSE - sold by Supreme products.
Brewers yeast is also very helpful and they love it x
