does anyone know if i use a tom thumb bit with double reins in bspa working hunter pony classes ? there is nothing in their rule book to say what bit you can or cant use all i have been told is that as hes not a novice he cannot have a wilkie snaffle he must be in something with double reins

I thought in workers you could jump in any bit pretty much. As far as I'm aware you can jump in a rubber snaffle in an open workers class if you wanted!!

Does it state in the rules that open ponies have to be ridden with 2 reins?? Seems a very strange rule?!!

im pretty sure you can use a wilkie snaffle, my friends been doing the 14hh hoys and rihs workers all season in a snaffle. i think a judge would much rather prefer a horse to be jumping comfortably in a wilkie than uncomfortably in another bit which isnt needed :-)

it has nothing in the rule book about any bit for any class im only going on what we have been told by a judge .. previous to the conversation with them i was under the impression i would be fine in a wilkie :S i wouldnt mind riding in a tom thumb as my pony goes quite well in it but i dont know if i should or can have double reins ?

I think the judge must have got slightly confused regarding the 'double reins' rule, think she is thinking of an open showing class. You can use any bit for workers, including a snaffle!
