I recently enquired about a horse for loan, its been advertised for a while and is just what I'm after. I told the owner via message that I had my own small place, basically a secure field and stables, tack room, feed room, hay store etc but no indoor or outdoor although we hire one half a mile away if we need to. We have kept our ponies like this for 18 months and they are all.super happy, they are schooled and jumped etc in the field, come in at night and go out most days, even the stallion gets about 15 hours turnout overnight which I'm sure many don't get. Our main showing pony has done fantastically well this year, well placed at county and affiliated shows and the big champs, qualified for some prestigious finals so we must be doing something right. We are experienced in showing and have backed and brought on several youngsters, we are still learning but know basically what we are doing?,- this mare I enquired about was 4 so obviously would need her education continuing and.seeeing as it was a loan this would ultimately benefit the owner. At. First she was replying quite quickly but since I told her what facilities we (don't ) have, I've heard nothing :-( so I guess that's a no then! Of course its the owners perogotive but still feel a bit miffed just wanted a. moan so thank you and goodnight. :-D

I don't know but I wouldn't take it too personally. This economic climate aside people put horses for loan because they don't want to part with them. And trusting somebody with a beloved horse is a massive leap of faith that can go wrong- maybe they have just changed their mind or are getting cold feet but are still considering it.
Good luck finding your perfect horse- there are plenty out there!

Agree not to take it too personally.
In my view schooling can be done anywhere and your set up sounds ideal for the horse and that is what is most important.
Good luck finding your perfect horse, am sure the right one for you will turn up probably when you least expect it.

That sounds ideal and personally I would rather a horse go to a home like that than a livery yard where its at more risk from other people and their horses
Could the stallion be putting the owner off maybe?
I would pick up the phone and speak to the owner or at least text to ask for a suitable time to phone. The amount of ads that state 'will not respond to texts/no texting' says how seriously some people take it as a form of communication, I would suggest that texts may be ok for initial contact then really a phonecall or visit is needed
Of course it could be conincidence and something has come up at her end

I must be rubbish - if you are who I think you are, I'd just forget about it! There's plenty more lovely youngsters out there for you, keep looking as your set up is fine and your results speak for themselves, eh?!

Your home may not suit some owners and some horses. It is not personal, that's just the way it is.

Are your stables away from your home? Maybe the owner would prefer the horse to be kept where you live so you around at night in case anything was to happen.

Yes I think you know who I am nia and you've been to my place, its a lot better now, all the stables have permanent floors down, hardcore and flags in stable area etc still needs fencing work on the dividing fence, oh yeah and its dry!!! I'm sure it will get wet again but everywhere else will too I imagine. Not to worry, have spotted another, fingers crossed as I really like him!

Hi,
I read this post and thought.. sounds familiar.
I started a post looking for a loan for something to keep my boys company. Ive worked with horses all my life & the amount of twits I had ring me...
The usually theme was " I have a horse for you to loan, i bought it for my daughter but its a bit too much for her... Can you have it for a year, reschool it and ill have it back"
No chance! If you want schooling livery pay for it! Also they get really moody with you for not considering horses with tendon injurys that are recooperating. I had a man woman screaming at me as I said no, i didnt want to be responsible if it got injured again.
I just fancied a rant and totally agreed with the original post. All I will say is the world is full alot of chancers!
