Please help us!Our pony cannot seem to stand still in the line up. She spins around, steps forwards, steps backwards, swings sideways, throws her head. We have tried these things so far - patting/ stroking
- scratching with the whip
- feeding titbits, she stands still for about 2 seconds then raises her head up and whinnies for more and occasionally steps backwards
- loose reins
- keeping on the bit in attempt to stay in 'concentrated work mode'
I don't think that it is her bit that is upsetting her because she still does this in a jointed snaffle. Also, she is absolutely fine when walking, trotting and cantering because she is being asked to do something, but is so fidgety it is losing her classes. We are running out of ideas. Any suggestions are welcome.

She is 7 but this is her first full season. She will stand still at home, it is just in the ring.

We have one that doesn't like to stand and he is going to go to group lessons everywhere so that he gets used to having to stand!

My 9yr old dartmoor gelding has the same problem, its highly embarassing. I have tried all sorts, but it seems he is just bored of showing and does not want to do it. So I started to do some different things with him like dressage and workers. Also not keeping him so fit helps. He never did it as a youngster but now its a very bad habbit. Even does it in in-hand classes. I have started doing simple things like taking my feet out my stirrups in the line-up and when I stay calm he does. Its hard to to tense up when you anticipate it as its so embarassing. Cant really suggest anything else other than maybe she just dosn't enjoy showing? Could you try workers where they dont have to stand in the line-up? change the routine to keep her guessing when you take her out.

Well she is a proper show pony and could easily go to HOYS if we can sort this out. She cannot jump at all as she is not very clever so workers is a no no! We will try some dressage over the winter and do more of a variety.

if shes very new to showing it will come with more experience. practice in the school with a group of friends and in the warm up arena. you could do a small amount of inhand showing too?
