Just a quick question really. How much do you pay for your lessons and were are you based? Im just curious as a couple of us seem to be paying very different rates down here. I understand that rates depend on how much experiance instructors have but just interested to find an 'average'.

I pay £22.50 for a private lesson with a BHS instructor at a local riding school. My son has private lessons on his loaned pony at £10 per half hour, again with a BHS registered instructor. We are in Bolton.

My daughter pays £14 for an hours instruction from a BHS qualified instructor. She is actually the yard owner and charges this just for the liveries. It has just gone up from £12 an hour from the 1st of September. Still think this is a bargain as she is such a fantastic teacher and my daughter is 21 but she is still learning new things from every lesson.

I was paying £35 an hour! I have had to stop my lessons as I just couldn't afford it, he was a good instructor but he had put his prices up from £30 to £35, I am now going to have lessons with a very experienced dressage rider / trainer who charges £25 an hour, we are in West Yorkshire.

Between £30 and £45 for three quarters though I did recently pay £65 for three quarters from a german dressage trainer as a one off. In my area you don't get a lesson from a qualified for less than £30 for three quarters. Was going to book some lessons at a riding school locally to ride some different horses. £50 to £70 for three quarters depending on when you go

I was paying £35 for 3/4 of an hour from a well known show producer in my area (preston). That was about a year ago so i suspect they will have gone up by the time i want to go back with harvey.

I'm paying £20 for half an hour for lessons with my dressage trainer, on my own horse in a school I pay for additionally, her horse's are currently stabled there also, which does make a difference. She's moving to her own yard soon and will then have to commute over to me, so the price may alter. He's only a youngster, but at some point he'll be moving onto 45min lessons, when I feel he'll be able to cope with it.
One guy does lessons round me at £75 for 45mins! No Thank You!

I don't get to have lessons much since I had children, but when I do I pay £25 - own pony, BHS II/experienced eventer, fab facilities - big outdoor arena with lovely show jumps, and in suitable weather, a huge schooling field with dressage arena on grass, working hunter jumps and portable cross country jumps. I book for an hour, but it might be a bit more or less as appropriate to how we get on with what we are doing. If I share with a friend, it is £15 each, and usually 75-90 mins. My instructor is about 45 mins from me, but absolutely anywhere is 20 minutes from me, and I think she is amazing value for money as she is such a talented rider and brilliant teacher, which don't always necessarily go together.

This has actually made for very interesting reading. Some of us are paying up to £40 per hour and then some of us seem to be paying a min of £25. So i guess we are just below average... although the person offering £75 lessons for that time seems barmy!
