I have recently joined British Dressage and am hoping to do my first affiliated test next sunday ;D The test I will be doing is P15, my problem is that our school at home is only the size of the small arena rather than the big one with the extra 4 letters in it. P15 is in the larger arena. How am I best going about practising the moves etc... I have learnt what order and where the letters are but regarding circles and things, they are ridden to different letters and I need to make sure I ride them the correct size! If anyone has any tips please feel free to share them Thanks

Can you lay out an arena in the field? I have the cones with the letters on but you can use upturned flower pots and put A4 paper stuck to them with the letter in felt tip. Even if your field is not level, it doesn't matter, just walk the test (you can even walk it yourself, without your horse) and this way you get your floor plan.
Most people find riding a 60m easier even if only a 40m at home. You have more time to look for the markers. When you get to the venue, the warm up should be 60m so you can have a quick practice before you go in.
Good luck and I hope you enjoy your first experience.

I wish I could set it out in the field however our fields look more like mud baths at the moment Thanks for the tip though S&O and I am really looking forward to doing my first affiliated test!!

Are your fields too bad for you to skip around in your wellies and do the test on your own two legs? Just as good and you will get everso fit.

The amount of times I have nearly gone over on my rear because the mud is so deep is getting silly now haha! I may be able to set it up on the yard though will have to take a look at the width of the yard in the morning! On a side note, is there anything I could do to stop my little man sticking his tongue out? He sticks it straight out (not to the side like most) and I have been marked down twice now for it even though he was not setting himself against my hand or anything? He does this rather a lot but it does not affect his way of going in anyway

I only have a short arena too. I just learn my test on a "learn a test" wipable board (Robinsons) then ride it the best I can in my short arena. It makes it easier to ride anyway - when you get in the long arena Good luck x
