praise, reward with treats, then the positive experience is ingrained in his head, practice lots and lots till penny drops, dont just wait till he runs off x

Definately praise him. If you tell him off when he comes back it will be a negative experience

Praise for returning, even if you feel like strangling him!!!
Carry a bum bag with treats, take him out on a long line and keep calling him back and treating him. When he comes back and sits for his treat he's the cleverest boy in the whole wide world. He'll soon get the hang of it. And as soon as you unzip that treat bag he'll be by your side.

I use a whistle every time I blow three toots on the whistle she gets a treat in the house in the yard and in the field she always comes back. It does have to be high value treats though not just a dog biscuit so I use cheese or human cold meat. Best of all is liver cake which I have yet to find a dog that doesnt love it easy to make but a bit messy I would always line the tin before cooking it as it took me weeks of scrubbing to get it off the baking tray Recipe liver, flour, egg, oil and if you like a bit of garlic whizzed in a blender until a creamy consistancy add a bit more flour until a stiff paste a bake n a roasting tin slowly for several hours or until dry. it can stink a bit but the dogs love it. Wholemeal flour is best Cut into squares about an inch square and freeze the excess in small parcels as you will get loads. defrost as needed

It helps with recall if the treats you use are really smelly!! Supermarket value cheese cut into small cubes is a popular one, also tesco do a value pack of those little cooked sausages, which are also a good one!

Sometime - I am a bit concerned about the use of human meat LOL where do you get that from?!!
Uptown girl I would reiterate what everyone has said, but I would also suggest that if you are having a recall problem you do not let off a long line until you have it resolved. You don't have to have hold of the long line, but it can be used to stand one when the little b***** sorry darling is disappearing in the opposite direction to you!
I had a jack that used to be the master of bogging off and it ain't funny! So as a result, I train Maisie with a longline and I can let her off and she comes back ;D You also have to make yourself far more interesting than that rabbit that is disappearing over the horizon!!
