Hi
I'm interested to know what people do with their weaned foals over the winter months. Do they stay out or do they come in. In an ideal world out during the day and in at night would be best but my yard cannot accomodate this. Its either in (in a huge crew yard) or out 24/7.

Hi, Mine is out all day and in at night. She doesn't have any foal friends to play with, which is what I'd prefer, but seems happy with my 2 horses! I've always been told to have foals in at night in winter, but maybe if your turn out is good and has shelter it would be better out 24/7?

In for the night in individual boxes, out in the daytime. They get educated at the same time, even if only rushing them in or out, then when time allows a bit more input.

depended, in at night and out for a play together in the school, sometimes when weather was nice out in a paddock, sometimes in at night in the school out in the day when nice. If I was you it would be the first unless they are very hardy

Thank you everyone I feel much happier about them being in now. If we have the winter that has been forcast then its probably the best place for them. We can turn out in the indoor school if we want, which will be fun. The crew yard that they are in is plenty big enough for them to have a play.

at the end of the day we all have to work with the facilities we have, we all have to face facts that this is going to be a difficult winter as everyone has waterlogged ground.
I would urge people though, especially if you do not have your own facilities NOT to breed especially in this economic climate.
