Looking at some jumping on here reminded me of how I got into riding. I learnt at Radcliffe Riding School in the early to mid 1990s, but the place closed down sometime in the late 1990s and I believe houses or industrial units were built on the site.
Did anyone on here go to this riding school? Does anyone remember any of the ponies? I rode Tiddler, Justine, Boxer, Gypsy, Jester and my Mum rode a big chestnut called Ryan. I remember him vividly because when we were waiting to go into the indoor once, my Mum got kicked right in the upper thigh by him - made one hell of a dent!
I remember the riding school had an indoor with gallery and an outdoor. The little ponies had stalls in a barn up the centre of the yard, and this was surrounded by stables of various sizes for the bigger horses. The tack room was in one corner and the office was next door. I remember lessons costing £5 and me handing the note over. There was also a cabin with some stairs up to it in the car park, and we used that for stable management classes, having lunch and doing tests.
So, if anyone remembers it, or knows if any of the ponies still exist, then please do let me know. I'm sure the ponies would all be very old if they are still around. I can't remember the name of any of the staff though!!

OMG I also learnt at Radcliffe Riding Centre - Christine was our instructor - late 1970's early 1980s.... wow thats long time ago. I used to ride Dusky and the progressed to Grundy my sis used to ride Tinkerbelle, my Mum used to ride too I think a liver chestnut mare called Fleur?? My friend bought a pony called Roxanne - a dun bout 14.2hh early 80's from there, years ago I heard Grundy had gone to an RDA centre don't know where. I too remember the indoor and gallery and they used to have shows there too in the outdoor patch with a tree almost in the middle. The office was a portacabin upstairs in those days and many of the ponies were in stalls with a rope and ball...My Dad had a screen printing firm at the time and he did some very striking black and white teeshirts for them with a horse head sillhouette as a logo...yeah we had a few of those too. Thanks to Radcliffe, me and my sis still have horses and my daughter too.....great memories gymkhanas in the fields, and at the age of 4 being so giddy in the car on the way there every Saturday...amazing x

I did lots of shows at Radcliffe on borrowed school ponies, and gymkhanas too! I had a fab time - enjoyed helping out on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon and sitting in the cabin learning "the points of the horse" and feeling very grown up! Anyone else?!

I used to attend Radcliffe Riding Centre in the early 80's and I remember Grundy. I left the area in 1985 to live in the Fylde Coast, but I used to enjoy riding Grundy. My instructors were called Carol and Jackie. I rode Dusty, Benji, Misfit and of course Grundy. My favourite was Dusty. I am shocked to hear the school is not there now, as I would have loved to go back and see it.

I rode in the 80's, and I loved my time there. I had an instructor called Carol. I suppose all the horses will be in equine heaven now. My favourite was Dusty, a fleabitten grey horse. She was very fast, but a gentle, kind mare who was friends with anyone. Would have made a perfect kids pet. I do remember Benji though, piebald who threw me when he was just cantering around. I also remember Grundy who ran up a quarry with me which caused great amusement with my dad. It's a scandal that houses have been built in it's place. I don't ride any more, but I would have liked to have visited it on a lovely nostalgia trip.

I learned at Radcliffe Riding Centre. I had such happy times there. My instructors were Carol and Jackie. It was in the early 80's, and I rode Grundy, Dusky, Benji, Misfit, I remember the indoor and gallery and the shows that they had. So sorry the riding centre is no longer there.
