I have recently brought a lovely section B palomino mare and cant find much about showing in specific palomino classes. Does anyone know more about the classes, what they are judged on etc? Any help/tips would be much appreciated,

I've never shown in this class but I'm guessing coloured spotted an palomino class is what you mean? I think they just pick the best true to type. I think they are judged in the same way as part bred classes. You'd be better showing in section b classes I would have thought as you are all judged the same

Do you mean Palomino Society classes? I believe they are judged first and foremost on colour, with dapples being heavily frowned upon, so only worth doing if your pony is the "right" colour. Other than that at local level, in colour spotted & palomino, or "odd coloured" classes (which include roans, duns and buckskins), ponies should be judged to type, not by colour or markings.

If you contact the palomino society www.britishpalominosociety.co.uk they will give you lots of info.Classes affiliated to the society are for registered horses/ponies owned by a member of the society, they have in hand and ridden but some areas do not schedule classes, they are judged on colour and conformation for in hand, for ridden it is performance only colour will only count if equal in their showThere is a national show at Malvern.Unaffiliated classes are judges choice.

interesting that dapples are 'frowned on' in palominos - i didn't know that we used to have a lovely dappled palomino by Cottrel Artiste (top Welsh B, also very dappley) we never knew how to describe his colour (it said 'cream' on his passport, but he was nothing like 'cream' in real life) my daughter called him a 'dunaminaloosa' which seemed to fit

interesting that dapples are 'frowned on' in palominos - i didn't know that Only, as I understand it, by the Palomino Society - I love them! Was very nearly tempted by a palomino Cottrel filly foal a few years ago, still in baby fluff so didn't know whether she would be dapply, but her sire was very dapply and very gorgeous!

Hi Suzee, her sire is Eyarth Savero and dam is Cottrell Annwyl When did you know her Jenna? Dont know much about what she has done in the past, think she has been shown before but cant find any results etc - not sure what classes she has been in. I had her from a girl who had just had her for fun, hacking etc. She is very uptight when ridden so have had to go back to basics and start again. Has flashes of very nice work though so I know she will be lovely with some time and patience.

she's lovely - beautiful head - if she was mine i would do welsh b classes, plait her up for show pony classes, do palomino classes and, if you get her neck built up a bit, do show hunter classes. she's a versatile sort
