Cheek of some people. haha. If your that great love, get your own. Probably a riding school customer who is great on the riding school bored to death steeds. haha
My friend asked for help with her 4 cobs that she has and a friend of a friend gave her number so she contacted my friend and said she'd love to help but then said oh and I charge £20 per hour plus travel expenses and she would effectively be training them and if she wanted her to drive them it would be more. My friend nearly choked but replied with well if you want to send me your full CV listing your exprience and qualifications then i'd happily employ you but as I have already passed my BDS (british driving socirty) stage 2 exam if you drive my boys I will be charging you!! ;D She never did get back to her with a CV.

the nerve of some people
Mind you, my best friend and I often bemoan the lack of teenagers who would do ANYTHING for a ride at the weekend. We used to work our a**e off as kids for the chance of a lesson! - and a hack, even better!
All for nothing these days!!

I had my filly up for sale for a while when i decided i hated her for all of 2 weeks.... lol. Someone messaged me (kid)
saying..... "hi i saw your filly for sale and wondered what shes done...can she hack?....ive been riding at a school for 2 years and can walk/trot.canter and jump..... would you also consider a part loan?"
filly is two...... and if said person had handled her im sure she would have been in hospital by lunchtime....

Deary me ... some folk ... more front that Blackpool with opinions of themselves higher than the blooming tower!!!! I am sure they will think you ought to feel privileged they have offered their services for free ... lucky you lmao.

I hate messages when you have an pony for sale from young kids, saying: " Please can I have your pony for free, I ride once a week at a riding school and have a very large garden in birmingham" Hmmmm let me guess...?

Sadly it is a sign of the times when I was looking for a rider for my youngster all I got were people who wanted paid for their time. Not a bad thing in itself and I can see their point of view but I wanted a rider not an employee. I am lucky that I didnt get a load of kids but at that point I could have used them to ride the older ponies so it wouldnt have mattered. I have a lovely girl now who pays her own lessons and I pay everything else. I have given her a load of stuff to sell on ebay to go towards the lessons.

I had someone phone when our pony was advertised looking for a 'loan' pony - they wanted me to pay livery, feed, any vet's bills & insurance but would give me 'something' towards shoes!!!!! Sure - why not keep a pony for a complete stranger to have fun with?! Some people are just cheeky!

I was looking for some youngsters to come and ride my small ponies and had dome right corkers turn up! One of them, according to her Nan had been riding for 3 years and could canter and jump etc but had only ridden at a riding school, so I told her to come and have a trial on our veteran, ex county shp/whp, as soon as I tightened the ponys girth, the pony started pawing the ground (she's always done it ) the kid ran off screaming Anyway I bunged her on and she refused to let me even lead her round in walk. I said maybe she should continue having lessons as this pony is a little bit sharp (but safe). Her Nan text me later and said the child hadn't liked the show saddle we have and she wasn't happy that the pony wasn't shod, so if I bought a new saddle with knee rolls and had her shoes put on then she would be willing to bring her granddaughter to try again, oh and she wanted £2 per mile to travel to us

It'sd either me thats stuck up, or some people have some blunt ways on putting things! A girl i know once put and ad on preloved her words were 'not botherd how old as long as he/she can jump' ......so baisically you dont care if its half dead as long as you can jump the legs off it and 'saw' at it's mouth as ive witnessed on her own horse! Made me laugh!

Lmao I've also had similiar when I was looking for some1 to loan my pony after my previous jockeys parents stopped paying me the money they offered to pay me in return for loaning pony and lessons and instead used me as a free babysitter all weekend. Then got the hump and refused to talk to me when I asked for the money yet still continued to drop child off hmmmmm yes of course I pay for the pony just for your child to use.

Similar but from opposite side - I was browsing through pre loved and saw an ad from a lady wanting a sharer for her horse and it read something like "If you are a whip happy ar$e hole looking for something to p1ss around on, don't bloody bother getting in touch " Charming! I swear like a navvy but not in ads, not sure I'd want to contact her at all even if I was looking! Sounds scary

Ive given up now on trying to find riders for any of ours ... they turn up randomly and expect to be able to do fast work when they havent ridden for weeks , Ihave just paid a pro to school one of ours so last thing I want is some kid ragging him round and undoing it all, I will just potter along we usually have Dec / Jan where we give them downtime so next Spring when all these " friends " reaapear out the woodwork of a wet cold winter wanting pony rides in the sun the answer will be NO .... I say this every year when I find myself trugging round in icy wind and snow doing jobs that people who dont help in winter wont be riding in summer and every year I let them ,,, but no more.... we have just retired our cob , so we now have one each to ride and will manage fine ourselves, Will is on LR next year with the 11ds Dan has the B and I have my horse to ride and thats it !!! ....bet I fall for it again though I always do I am too soft.... I could type here all morning some of the cheeky statements peeps have come out with regarding helping out with jobs etc .... people just want a free ride these days ..only on sunny days mind .... and havent a clue of the reality of the cost and work involved ... I dont at all mind paying a pro to school when needed, but if someone average walked in my yard and wanted paying to ride they would be shown the gate !!

I think 'non horsey' parents over estimate their child's ability. Once had a local family ask if their daughter could come to ride one of our Sec A's - 'very experienced child' who had been having a lesson once a week for a year at a local riding school! Oh dear! I asked how she would ask for 'halt' - no idea - because my pony at the riding school stops when the pony in front stops. How do you ask her to go left/right - at the riding school my pony just follows the one in front!! I rest my case!!

Love this post! I get asked all the time by friends asking If their kids can come and have pony rides, or teenagers who ride at riding schools can come and help and ride our ponies. One girl I let come down spand she told me she hated filling haynets, but would happily ride.
We have a section d stallion and a c stallion................can you imagine what would happen if I let these kids handle or ride them? Yes they are good as gold most of the time but still they are entire!!!!
Needless to say I say no to anyone and everyone who wants to come and see or ride our ponies!!!

I had a friend come and ask me if their friends daughters could ride I thought as they had been at a riding school for four years my welsh c would give them a decent ride , they came and wanted to ride my old mare , she may be old but she sees a jump and she starts bouncing about and god forbid they kicked her so I said no ride him , we'll ....... I left them to warm up while I got a Haynet to amuse the other horse I was shocked to see this one girl cantering him in the first 5 minutes let alone on the wrong leg leaning that forward she looked like she was biting him ears and hanging full force on my ponies mouth needless to say after my endless hours of schooling and trying to get him into a decent outline I went mad showed them the gate , now if I don't ride my sister will or I will get a professional to school if I'm too busy , never again x

Sorry to read all these bad experiences..I have had 2 lovely loaners from my advert on Preloved so I must have been lucky! I was very honest in my ad and the girls wanted to help with everything (they just love grooming and sometimes dont bother riding just do the TLC!)aswell as paying me! One is French and the other German..lovely girls!

We once advertised for someone to come help us ride as we had about 5/6 inc some newly backed 3 + 4yo - Someone came and said her daughter could ride some too - okaaayyy Ill get them tacked up for you to see how you get on - reply was 'oh I wasnt planning on riding today I just came to get tackroom keys and find out what tack to use' ............ err no love I want to see you both ride - well 10min later they left without any tack room keys!!!
