I put this on 'Moaner areas' but not had any constructive help so thought I woulde repost it here:
Heard 2 awful stories today - first hand - someone came to collect a kitten from us and chatting they said they had bought a Yorkie/Patterdale cross pup for £400 ) - was said to be 8 weeks old - they didn't see see the dam? Turned out pup was only c 5 wks and had a heart murmur and eventually, diagnosed with epilepsy. They spent £1000 on vet's bills and then the dog was put to sleep. All the owner offered was replacement pup. The second story is my cousin bought a pedigree Chihuahua (?sp) which seems to have hip displaysia - she is now paying a huge vet's bill for an investigation and op. I have told them both that they should do something about idot breeders - but what is the correct course of action guys? Grrrr!

dont buy from them and fund their pockets...
go through a reputable breeder - see both sire and dam....and do homework.

Sorry I agree with b31, people.buying animals need to have a certain amount of responsibility, research the breed, ensure you buy from an acredited breeder and ensure all.the health checks have been certified by a vet. Never buy a puppy that's not been seen with its mother and siblings.

I'm not all for kc reg dogs only being bred but what does really concern me is when someone advertises pups with kc reg parents but are not registering the litter - that usually means that either the bit*h was too young to be bred from or is being bred too regularly to register the litters.
If the breeders are kc members then complaints regarding litters can go to them. If not, then it would either come under animal welfare organisations or trading standards I'd guess?

spot on Em5 I bought a cocker spaniel from working lines.... saw mum/brother and sisters - saw a picture of dad (used an outside stud dog)... saw his mum working/being trained... held every pup in th elitter - beautiful pups from generations of champions.... same puppy has just been to leahurst and has developing slightly deformed front limbs, has hip dysplasis and elbow issues! So to me id dread to think the cr*p that comes from pure puppy farmers....!....

I have a pedigree Cavalier King Charles and when I was looking for a puppy I saw many types of breeders. Most were breeding to sell for a quick profit .They were charging £300/£400 for a pup. So perhaps got £2000 for a litter. I eventually found a responsible breeder and have a lovely healthy 4 year old dog now. You certainly can make much more than from breeding ponies!!

It seems that more and more people are breding pups , they see it as an easy way to earn money without having to leave the house. It really does infuriate me! I have at least 3 friends on face book that put there poor dogs in pup almost every time they are in season and are then selling them for up to £500 each pup. I really don't agree with it and wish people would think about where these puppies end up, the dogs homes are packed out with unwanted/stray dogs.

TBH I cannot nor ever would like to understand why people breed them. I run a rescue & deal with the fall out of the so called responsible breeder on a daily basis. Hundreds of dogs & puppies die daily all because no room can be found for them, this includes pedigree ones. breeders should be made hold the paw of one of their so called beloved pups as they draw for last breath follwing the needle. DON'T BREED OR BUY WHY RESCUE DOGS DIE
