I have a small hunter who is very plain, she's bay with black points. She hasn't any white on her or anything . She's American quarter horse x Argentinian throughbred. She takes more after the quarter horse side tho and is very true to type. I'm wanting to show her inhand as ridden she gets to excited. What bridle would I show her in tho as I can't decide whether to go for a proper inhand bridle or just still to her plain hunter bridle, but then do I take her in a snaffle or Pelham? I don't want her head to look ridiculous as her head is a true hunter head, very refined but she has deep cheek bones. Any advice is great

A photo would be helpful. Im not sure there are many classes for inhand hunters that are over the age of 3 as by 4 most are doing the ridden job. If she has a hunter head then she should be in a hunter double bridle

I'd go for a double bridle too

It depends on what level you want to show her? At local and riding club champs there are a wide range of classes i.e. hunter mare/barren/ without foal at foot...Open In Hand...Part Bred...etc. I would suggest either a Hunter Double or Plain Snaffle with flat nose band with a coupling. Perhaps posting a picture will give a better idea of type in relation to class..

It won't let me put pics on, an no she is definitely a small hunter, she would look silly as a hack or riding horse. She takes after a quarter horse so is small but solid

As an adult, I would expect her to be presented in a full bridle, with reins attached. I also think she might benefit from a wide 5 strand plaited browband as it will just dress the head a little, as she has no white on her.

Iv shown her in a plaited browband and had judges tell me that she is not a m&m so doesn't need the plaited browband. :/ she said hunters should be plain so I took it off

Think I will try her in the double bridle just didn't know if there was anything else that would look neater around her face :/

Yes I would agree with fanfarefan, a double but a generally finer bridle than the one in your picture with a deeper noseband.

Hmmm I would be tempted to see how she would look as a riding horse. I thought that too, she's very like my horse he's inbetween and does well in hunter and riding horse classes. Very similar build, he's a standardbred so a bit chunkier than a thoroughbred. In answer to your question OP would definately have a wider noseband.

Her double bridle is a bettet fit, (the photo is from a while ago when we forgot a bit at a show and had to borrow one which is why it's to big) And I don't think she would be good as a riding horse, iv got a throughbred that is true to type HOYS standard riding horse and this one is nothing like her. Plus she would look ridiculously small against some of the riding horses. I'm going to get her a thinker nose band and smaller browband and see if that looks neater around her face. The photo's don't do her size justice, she is far chunkier than any Riding horse iv seen

I have to say a double would make things look 1000 times more professional being an adults horse. I too would like to see her as a riding horse but certainly like her as a hunter or a workers horse.

A double for me too and if you do use a single rein bit use a pair of reins over her head never a lead rein and coupling they are only used on proper in hand brass fitted bridles. Sorry but that is a pet hate it looks very amateurish and as if you dont know what doing. A thick noseband and smaller browband will look neater and shorten her head

Thank you smartieparty an Sony forget she can't do the ridden (yet) this is for inhand. I'm definitely not doing her as a riding horse, she is a true hunter in the flesh. Il go for the double bridle and the different nose and and browband, an see how she goes Thank you everyone
