I agree - I personally don't see any difference between selling a pony to buy a trailer, or trying to do a direct exchange. I'll leave this thread open to comments until later, and then the comments will be pared back. If people want to discuss the principles of swapping livestock for items, then can someone please start a new thread.

Get a life. I.m sorry but we all have feelings you know and that includes sharon change the subject.

Whilst I'm sure halfpass doesn't class himself as perfect, he is a member of this forum and entitled to a personal opinion just like everyone else. You said yourself we all have feelings, so why should being an apprentice moderator (which you seem to have issue with), prevent someone from expressing those feelings? And as for people pulling down others, isn't that exactly what you're trying to do to Halfpass with your comments? I'm sorry but when someone gives their time free and for nothing, in order that this forum can keep running, I don't find it acceptable for them then to be denied the right to voice their opinions.

I've got no issue with bartering but if you specifically say you want to swap things that eat for things that don't why then would you want more broodmares? this makes no sense

Ok, OK. Everyone calm down.
I said I would be "interested" in swapping for things that don't eat. Slightly differant to "prefer" or "wanting" Yes I do seem to have a surplus of colt foals this year but if they do not sell then I have no problem keeping, gelding and breaking them in a few years time. I breed for myself, I put a lot of thought into who to cross with who. I sell the ones that haven't read the cooking instructions and have come out the wrong sex or colour. I'm sure there will be those of you that do not like that but if I am trying for a coloured filly from a certain cross then I will sell the coloured colt or plain foal that I get in it's place. Having said that I am keeping a stunning colt from this year. I was initially upset he wasn't a filly but watching him grow.. he is gowing nowhere. I added the laughing smilies to lighten the post nothing more. That seems to have backfired somewhat.
The majority of my brood mares are 13.2hh and below, several of whom are in their late teens, they will be with me until they leave this earth. I do not sell on old ponies. I would like to start and breed horses as well as ponies hence the "wanting bigger mares." I do have money in the bank, I am not desperate to sell, I am not one of the people that reduce prices and post must sell to make room etc. I know my ponies are worth money broken and sold, if I have to wait 4 years then so be it.
I know everyone has differant views but there is no need for anyone to fall out over them.
No, no-one has offered any swaps on this forum but I have had a few interesting offers from elsewhere.
I hope I have clarified a few points and answered questions. I also hope this appears a little less cold than the first one.

Yes, thanks for making things a bit clearer sharan. Have given you a karma, for giving us your point of view, and accepting that people have different views.

I don't want to get into this bickering, but i just want to say i am in full support of sharons point of view!! I have (in the past) swapped a pony for a saddle (i gave the saddle and took the pony) this was from a stud who had a sec D colt foal which they didn't need (although would have kept and gelded if needs be, as sharon has said) but they needed a show saddle so the swap was done, we later on sold the colt to a fab home, and earned from it, no-one was any worse of (in fact we both probably ended up better off) so sharon i for 1 fully understand where you are coming from and if someone was to offer me a swap for one of my ponies for something of same value i would be interested!!!

Well I dropped my much loved shetland mare off at her new fantastic home yesterday and came away with an envelope of notes and felt totally heartless, can absolutely understand peoples reactions re the original wording but dont think there is much difference in cold hard cash or goods.

I've swapped ponies in the past. I swapped a wonderful first pony mare for a dun pony and a yearling coloured cob. The little mare was of no use to me and the dun and coloured was of no use to them. They got a wonderful first pony for their nervous daughter and that little pony gave their daughter her nerve back. Within weeks she was out hunting. I sold the dun pony on, and the coloured cob is still with me two years later, though he will be sold as he's outgrown. As someone above said, what's the difference between swapping for an item, another animal or swapping for cash? I think too many people are too quick to judge.
