I have a coloured mare, she is a cobby type aprox 14.2 but isn't a traditional like you see winning the big classes, her feathers won't seem to grow long enough and are sort of rubbish in comparison and quite short (although she has the bone of a light weight/medium weight cob). I have been told that she is not big enough or heavy enough to be clipped either.
To make things worse she has started with mud fever, it is not toooo bad but I was debating whether to clip her to make things easier (although she needs sedating so really things wouldn't be that much easier).
I don't really show in cob classes but she has done OK in a few coloured classes in the past. I think her markings are ok. They are all crisp and fairly even on both side, although i am no expert by any means.
Basically I was wondering whether she would get marked down in a coloured class if I clipped her legs and plaited her up (even though she has a fair amount of bone) or if I just battle on and find some way to get her feathers to grow come summer.

Post a couple of pictures - there are several coloured / cob experts on here who could give better advice if they could see her

Is she not a native coloured rather than a traditional? They tend not to have as much feather and pulled manes?? If she needs sedating to clip if you were to show her as a cob/hunter she will need sedating every time you are wanting to trim her for a show. Would be better if you have a pic?
