When i ride/lunge in trot, my horse sometimes makes this weird noise, but not all the time. I have heard a lot other horses make the same noise in the past at various other yards/shows. not sure whether its respiratory related or not as it seems to me like its coming from his stomach area, but then again im worried as to whether this may be roaring? as i have never heard a 'roarer' before, im not sure whether this may be his problem, as i wouldnt really say its a whistling/roaring sound of any kind.
I am going to seek veterinary advice just to make sure, but just wondered if any of you have had similar experiences or what your opinions are of what could be causing it?

I've heard this as well, think it comes from the gut (the horses not mine!) but not sure how or why?

it definately seems to be from the stomach/gut area, have tried looking it up but cant seem to find anything on it! its only in trot thuough, never in canter. hes ridden at least 4 days a week and is fairly fit, it doesnt appear to affect his performance either

The pony I'm thinking of was a riding school pony who did just what you describe, kind of like a creaking noise? If it's any consolation he always did it and lived well into his thirties, so it was never any detriment to him.

My gelding used to make a noise when his sheath needed cleaning - something to do with air getting trapped - is your horse a gelding if so try giving his sheath a thorough clean

Geldings make that noise, even if sheath is cleaned, bet it still happens.

Caroline Ackrill wrote a wicked piece many years ago about her 'oinking' gelding, can't remember where it was published but it was side splittingly funny! Yes, the noise emmanates from the sheath and don't think much can be done!

I have a gelding who needs his sheath cleaned regularly and I noticed the noise when it has been cleaned too so I asked a equine lecturer what it was. You are right it is when the sheath need cleaning but it also happens when the horse is tense (my horse is a typical Arab x and is very sensitive too so I notice it in both instances).

I read the book recently a friend lent it to us, very funny.
