Please can people give me some hints and tips on putting together a lead rein outfit on a budget (M&M). It s our first time doing it and the cheapest I can find second hand is £300 (gulp!). Surely there is a cheaper option, I would love photos etc too of your lovely lead reins for some ideas! Thanks in advance

Look in the sales in shops like M&S! You really do NOT need expensive clothes, nor do you need to match your jockey's jacket - just wear colours that complement the jockey's jacket and the colour of the pony. Buy a jacket from M&S or similar, a pleated skirt from pretty much anywhere (EBay is always excellent) and a hat and gloves from a charity shop! Good luck - have a great season.

Dark trousers, shirt, waist coat, gloves and a hat!!! U really don't need a proper outfit. The judge will be looking at the overall picture. As long as you are smart you ll be fine.

Hi, I have a tweed coatdress, size 10/12 which will be for sale, with a matching child's tweed. Just need to check size of child's jacket. Matching leader's hat too.
PM if interested and I will find a pic.

Also have a look at local tack shops, we have a 2nd hand rail at ours and often at the end of the season have lots of showing outfits.. Hope this helps :-)

Don't stress yourself over the outfit...I have worn brown M+S cords (99p off ebay), showshirt and brown tweed hacking jacket, didn't match my daughters' green tweed but we did have matching pink ties..certainly didn't have any discouraging comments and felt much more comfortable than miss marple outfits that are sooo not me. Flat boots, rubber soles as last year every show was wet. Absolutely fine for riding club where neat and tidy and presentable is preferable.

I bought my Skirt from Mcays, cheap blue hacking jacket from I dont know where. I would try and get a wool one though. I have a scalf so I can wear any colour T shirt underneath. I have also worn a smart long sleeve T without my jacket on when it was really hot. Just remember to look well turned out. Also I wear my Long black boots, I dont want my shoes falling off or wet feet. Charity shops for hats or there are some lovely cheap flat caps in dept stores
