As title says first ridden show in 20years. I use to show ponies at county level till I was around 11-12 till I lost interest in ridding and just did in hand. In my early 20s I really missed it and learnt to ride again. I brought a youngster and broke him ourself and he's a super star. We have just enjoyed him and done a few clinics and not rushed things the last few years.
Where ever we go we get told how lovely he is, which is v sweet.
Right my question is I lack such confidence in the thought of ridding in the ring,as I just haven't done it and our first show is coming up and I'm panicking. I know I need to have my own space and not to block people but I'm not very good at looking forward and finding a space well I thought I was at my last clinic until my mum said I was cutting people up. Which Im really gutted about as I really didn't think I was.
We both are novices but i do feel sometimes i let him down. we both try our hardest and i know thats what matters and im not going out to win i just want to go have a great day with my boy and have fun however I don't want to make a fool and look a complete wholly in the ring. The girl on a nice horse! I know I give myself a hard time but when you see some of these lovely ladies ride I'm in awe of them. Any help and tips to help would be great on what I should do and shouldn't do! Thank you x

I think it's fab that you have got back into it again, thing once you have the horse bug it never goes away.
Could I suggest maybe going to a few local clubs/ riding clubs before you go and knock your nerves riding in the big rings with the producers. It'll help to improve your confidence and also your horses, it can be abit daunting for a novice horse and rider when riding in company when others are trotting and cantering up your bum. Also it wont matter so much if you make any major blunders or mistakes, if anything you'll just learn from them. If he has a little spook or shy, just smile and give him a pat that everything is ok. And if you have a nice judge they will always give you some tips and advice if you ask for it.
Just remember at the end of the day to enjoy yourself and enjoy riding your horse and dont put so much pressure on yourself.

My pony is very forward going so when I enter the ring I quickly set out to find the right place to ride. I overtake if I need to untill I find a pony with a simular walk to mine. I do it whilst we are all still in walk before the class actually begins. Once the class has begun if you have to then you can overtake on a corner. If you do it when the judge isnt looking in your direction then you wont look rude. Give them plenty of room when you pass. Smile and have fun . =)

Relax and enjoy it - well try to! If you get in a panic, you won't be able to see what is going on and ride accordingly. Try to find somewhere quiet where there won't be loads in the class - and soemwhere with a decent sized ring. Good luck

Well we did it! I would recommend everybody that has had the same niggles and insecurities as me to just go have a good! We had an amazing time! And were going out this weekend too!! Horray! It was so lovely to go out and about. We didn't even get placed but we went beutifully and My good old mum was chuffed to bits! So for me that was enough achievement in its self. As a good old friend of mine said to me! Rosettes are won at home you just collected them at a show! What a good saying!!! Good luck everyone for this season x
