It would depend on her age - for a first foal I'd try not to use a bigger stallion - and type and shape of both parents. A deep, wide mare could be OK for a taller, narrower stallion but a narrow, shallow mare the same height with a bigger deep, wide stallion could be more of a problem. As a very broad guideline I'd say no more than a hand bigger. Mind you, there are plenty of Welsh Cs bred by putting a D stallion on an A mare, don't think I would though.

Never more than a hand bigger regardless of age but for a first timer then same or smaller You should always go light over heavy too so a chunky mare could have a lightweight lightboned stallion slightly bigger A light mare should only have a same sized or smaller in my view you dont want a cobby foal from a show pony the bone size is likley to cause trouble
