Hey guys. This year i'm debating having a change with Boo. I'm just in two minds about if he would suit being a 'lightweight hunter' for the year. He's 15.3hh, tb x arab (75% - 25%) Not the best pictures in the world but what do you guys think? (Ignore the fact he's got a coloured browband on, we've been doing show horse classes)

I do not feel that he has enough bone unless it is the photo. At 15.2 he would be a small hunter and not a lightweight
have fun

He's 15.3 but do you guys think he'd suit being in a hunter class or is it worth sticking to the show horse? I got told to try Working hunter with him because he does a fab show and loves jumping but i need to hold my hands up and say i dont know much at all about the hunter side of shows so i have no idea if he could suit WH but not LWH/SH? If that makes sense?

You don't have to have a hunter horse to do WH. All ponies can do it even if it is only at local level. Looking at your pictures I think u should give it a go I love WH it's my faveroute type of show. Just give it a go if it doesn't work out then you don't have to carry on with it

Try both, try the workers and have a punt in a lightweight class, if he gives judges nice rides and has good conformation then its worth a try:)

Thanks guys. I can see were your all coming from but like a few of you said, its worth a try. If the judges don't like him in the lightweight hunters i'll just play in the WH and show horse classes Another question now, what colour tweed? Sorry to be a pain!!

have you had him measured? 158 cm is over 15.2, There is nothing stopping you have a go in lightweight hunter classes however you may find yourself dwarfed by your competitors.

Me too Horselady riding horse is what I thought of.. but you can still do workers. you don't need a hunter to do it.
And depending on what level you are planning to show at.. if just rc /local have a go at riding club horse and have a feel for it.
One RC show has a working horse class which is workers with style and performance built in.. and usually over lower fences I think 70cms rather than 90+cms

Lots of county shows have working hunter show horse classes and jump are only around 2ft9. Think you have to be a member of some society for these. They used to be a working cob class but entries were low so they made it a working show horse class. I think he would do great in that!

Normally at a show I do Riding Club horse, part bred arab and ridden show as my ridden classes and then a jumping one.

For workers and ridden hunter you'll need a tweed jacket.
He may do well in RH but at local level you will find every type of hunter under the sun in the class and it will be down to judges preference. I have a small hunter but at local level it's only split in under 14'2 and over 14'2 so quite often gets over shadowed by the big guys, some judges love him, others not so much. Although he is always placed really high in hand.
Good luck.

I agree, a bit small for a hunter. I know how you feel as I tried the hunter class with my gelding and the comment I had were "too small for a hunter" So I stick to riding horse classes. Hes a 15.3 Arab x Welsh -- below
