Just a quick (pointless!) rant - am on a serious pony hunt - why is it that all the ponies which look ideal are either in the bloomin Scottish Highlands or at the other end of the country in Devon or Cornwall?!?! It's beyond a joke!!!! That's all, really.

At least they're not as far as Timbuktu But yeah it can be a real pain when the ideal ponies come up for sale and they're everywhere that isn't where you are.

Yes we can but it's hard to organise 3 little kids and they fight like mad in the back of the car on long journeys! Transporting is not the issue lol. And what if the pony turns out not as described?! It's a minefield, I absolutely HATE pony hunting. Ah well, we're going to see what looks like a super one in Cumbria on Sunday so my fingers are well and truly crossed

Do you not have any friends located near these ponies that could go and do a first viewing for you before you treck round the country?

If you do not want to travel too far perhaps you could limit your search to the surrounding counties?

I have has this problem! A lot of the good show horses seem to be based down South. It's worth the travel for the right one but sadly you don't know until you get there! Keep looking though good luck

Mum and I often laugh that we must have been to the 'moon and back' looking at ponies. Ironically, the ones you want are often nearer than you think. I think you just have to grin and bear it... better to have had a look and dismissed an animal than worry that you may have missed a good one! One of the reasons I like sales for the natives. Often a good critical mass of a similar type, that you may be looking for, all in one place.

We live in Scotland. When I was looking for a stallion a good few years ago I advertised in the wanted section of H&H, was inundated with replies. Then drew up a shortlist which covered from North Wales to Cornwall, along the very south of England and back up the east coast. I took a week to do it and had a wonderful time and got the stallion I wanted. In Scotland we have airports which are easily and cheaply accesible. Most sellers would be happy to meet a buyer and transport them from an airport. Eric Gillie to transport the new purchase to a new home. Simples!

Lol frozzy sounds fab but I have 3 young kids 9 and under, limited babysitting options and top of that am self employed! (all things considering, that makes a week away seem far more attractive....!!)

I know what you mean. I took 6 hours to drive to see a pony which I did buy. Then had to drive back to collect her Bless the M25 it took us 12 hours to get her back we drove there the night before thankfully.
Sometimes the one with your name on it is a million miles away.

Im in the same position, been around the UK and back. What is the annoying part is when you have asked the questions and been told what you want to hear then when you turn up they arent worth getting out of the stable.
I dont understand why people cant take a decent picture of a pony stood up from both sides.
I travelled 4hrs last week to look at a Hoys quality horse to look over the stable door and it wouldn't have made it into a sale ring nevermind a show ring. Then the sellers had the nerve to have a go at me when I told them I didnt want to ride it.

I bought my section C colt within an hour of him being advertised on here. Asked for more pics and a video to be emailed and then sent a deposit. He was then delivered to me the following week and was everything he was described to be. You get both good and bad sellers I suppose!
