Can't understand why being able to string a sentence together or use a dictionary, or even spell is a disadvantage. In the real world they are attributes that can further job prospects and be financially advantageous. Think about it!!!!!!! Shovelling sh*t isn't all its cracked up to be!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gauntlet, it just made me giggle somewhat that you were complaining about other people's spelling and grammar, but your use of the word 'pouring' might have been more appropriate as 'poring', i.e. pore, to be absorbed in studying (a book etc.), meditate on, think intently about.
Glass houses and stones come to mind . . . . .

Oh well it took you all some time to find my deliberate mistake!! However it took your mind off cheating judges, crooked competitors and unfair placings!! Wonder if Ponymum would have spotted the mistake without the help of Milliesmum?? I think Milliesmum deserves a sticker!!

I'm sure we all believe it was deliberate But you're right, it did send the thread off topic, and was funny reading it, i often laugh at the ad's placed in various magazines and on websites when they have spelling mistakes and i too have often spelt things wrong

Can fully appreciate what you are saying about same judges. I personally wouldnt keep judging the same shows, over and over again. It gets very boring seeing the same ponies- well, for me anyway! I try not to do too many, in my own area. I dont mind having to travel, but know alot of the judges wont travel.

well i cant spell to save my life, but i am an ext fair judge. I wander what is more important in the show ring, someone who can spell or someone who is a good judge. I know which i would prefer when in the ring :0)

Keeping to the initial topic of this thread.....(any spelling mistakes there?) - My riding Club show has had the same judge in the childrens ring for goodness knows how many years.
I am not going to bore you with the details of her judging, but just to say, she is not a county standard judge and her methods (which include group cantering in first ridden etc etc) are a little bizarre.....!
Some people are thrilled to have her back, year after year, as their little lovelies, who canter on the wrong leg with an outside bend, did incredibly well under her.
I would prefer a change of judge EVERY year. Good or bad, otherwise where is the sense of anticipation/excitement/challenge etc, which is surely the buzz we all get when putting ourselves or our kids out there to "do their best"?
Put this judge in the adults ring for a change and give us some new judges - PLEASE!

We run a small show and it is now in its second year. We change our judges every single show unless we are really stuck. Our next show we need six judges as we are doing second rounds in the afternoon and because of this we have had to invite one judge who judged for us last weekend but we will only do this if we are stuck.
This judge judged for us last year, she is very good and very fair and judges what is in front of her on the day and doesnt have the same ponies placed the same way all the time. She is a good judge and we like to keep hold of her.
Going to the spelling my pet hate is bargin!!!! Oooohhh I gringe when I see that on Ebay listings, lol!!

I think there is so much political backwash going on that shows are just grateful to get any judges so they ask the same ones over and over again. Think of the show trying to make money from entries. The "wrong" judges can mean financial suicide. No entries. Also so many judges accept as many appointments as they can then sift through them to cherry pick the "best" appointments, letting down shows they deem less prestigious. I get so many heartfelt begging phonecalls from shows that have been let down as I know that for some of the top 10 I'm definitely not first choice. But I always get asked back the next year as I'm house trained and cheap to keep. Have not spell checked this................... :-)

Modified to spell check ;D Yes, I think her books are great and I was so looking forward to the next one but I'm afraid Jenny had a pretty traumatic year last year after losing her Dad and just hasn't been able to find the time to write anymore books, since. She was planning to write some children's pony books, (which she had asked me to illustrate) but those are a long way off. You really do have to be in the right mood and have loads of time (which she hasn't much of, lately) to produce one book a year, which her publisher expects. We'll just have to re-read the old ones!!!

What i mean is my local riding club is called Accrington and District it's only 12 miles from where i keep my horse, where all simple people we do county shows etc. But when you get some body pull up with a box with a york address on it (which is nearly 70 miles away) and you've never see them before or again. just seams a bit extream. Sorry mandymoo but i have to disagree with you here. I used to live in the north west and we could go showing locally every weekend with a great choice and all within a small distance, however i moved to east yorkshire 4 years ago now and our closest showing show is about 40 miles from where we live because over here it is very dressage & show jumping orientated. We do get fed up of competing against the same faces so we travel further a field for a change of scenary. We havnt come as far as the north west this season but next year we will be as we have friends over that way and will be good for them to see our new horse. When we are looking at a schedule for a riding club show, we simply look at what classes there are for us to do & if there are plenty we can do we go there. We do not make up our mind by what prizes are on offer at the particular shows as to whether we attend them or not. Yes people do frown upon us sometimes because we have a nice horse and they probably think we shouldnt be there with him, but we have just as much right as anyone else to go to whatever shows we like, we would just mark it down not to go there again. We havent done any county level at all this year but next year we will be doing so when we travel further it will be for the county shows and not the local/riding club shows. It is nice to be judged by different faces thats another reason why we go further to show.

I do hope she returns to writing because she makes me forget the day to day drudgery! Try and pick up a pen Jenny, we miss you! XX
