Does anyone know if I can get a high withered saddle, and if so, where from? My new horse has very high withers, the saddle we have been using seems to be pressing on her withers despite 2 thick pads on underneath. When we got her she was very thin, but now she has filled out we are getting her a new saddle - it seemed pointless to get one when she would jsut change shape! If anyone knows of anything that would be great, Thanks

Several years ago (10, maybe), I had a very high withered tb (before the days of short legged hairies!) who I really struggled to find a saddle for, I ended up with one from Berney Bros. in Ireland. They talked me through where to measure her with one of those bendy ruler things, then I traced the curves on to paper and faxed them to them, my saddle arrived in a box the next week. I was really sceptical, but desperate, but the saddle fitted her perfectly, was beautifully made, really reasonably priced and VERY comfy.

Do you specifically need a show saddle? High withered GPs, dressage etc are actually quite easy to find and local fitters usually have a good range. Show saddles tend to be flatter - I've just had two deep seated WH saddles made up for high withered horses but with a dressage tree rather than the normal tree we use, so it can be done. You need to find a good fitter who covers you area and work with them.

We had a very high withered pony ( very unusual to have a pony wit withers !) and we found Kent and Master make not only a high withered saddle but one in pony sizes as well. Was so comfortable and not expensive either as saddles go :-)

Thanks for the replys, I found the Kent and Master website last night and they look good! A friend has a high withered saddle we can try and see if it fits any better, so will try that first.
