What do you all think about ponies with blue eyes? I always thought that it showed the very oldes t of Welsh bloodlines. I have a very well bred mare with one blue eyes. Her daughter has one eye half blue and half brown. Her son has two brown eyes. Only one judge ever has made an adverse comment about the mare's eye and no-one has seemed to notice her daughter's eye at all. However, I am thinking of buying another pony (from very similar bloodlines) with one blue eye and wondered if it would hamper her chances of doing well. She was well placed as a foal at Royal Welsh but does it depend on the judge? There is of course the most beautiful palamino first ridden a round at the moment with two blue eyes and he does not seem to be penalised for it . What do you all think?

i dont have a problem with blue eyes and dont believe that if the pony is outstanding that judges do. perhaps in a decider it may. proof that it hasnt affected ponies is cantref glory a beautiful pony that has bred many with blue eyes he is also the sire of a pony with much success with a blue eye - ringcourt sinatra i also had his sister whom also had the eye but won much and we bred from both again v successful

I think the palomino you are referring to is probably ours. We bought him from a very well known stud as a foal for my two grandaughters to ride. He has had a very successful time with both of them including Res Champ Novice Lead Rein at NPS Malvern and winning several WPCS Performance Medals off the lead. He is currently doing first ridden with the youngest. She is now off the lead for the first time and he is giving her loads of confidence. We have had mixed reaction to his blue eyes, but I think most judges are looking at his performance and action above the colour of his eyes. We all love him anyway and when Izzy has outgrown him he will be going up to Scotland for another little girl to have loads of fun on.

A friend of mine has a horse, called Blue eyes and he is a fab pony! He has won quite a few things. To be honest he has a presence about him anyway that does make you look regardless of his blue eye. I like him, full of character! ;D

We have the popny mentioned above and to be honest it has not really affected his showing results. One judge hates him because of his blue eye and at least he has been consistant and had us bottom of the line every time, so we dont go under him now. The only thing I would say is that judges notice his eye and dont forget for both good and bad reasons, on the day he is behaving like a spoilt brat I wish it would totally change colour.
I love his little eye he looks at me in the stable sometimes and his eye has so much wisdom and kindness in it.

I personally don't like them and don't feel they are appropriate in the non-hairy show ring. I will make no comment about them in the native show ring as I don't know enough about native showing and standards.

Personally I love them , I think it should not make a ounce of difference if the pony has good conformation, temperament and does the job. I would have bought a C colt this year, with a blue eye (yes I did debate on it, but had decided to have him but then couldn't due to unforeseen circumstances) I still wish to this day I had though he was just amazing, dead different looking but god could he move, with conformation and a shoulder to die for and by gum did he stand out from the crowd. Its given me goosebumps just writing about him - Gosh I wish I had bought him. As for little Skints, Franks (Ringcourt Sinatra) He Just Rules !!!!! with his little blue eye

We have a foal with a blue eye and I think he has stunning movement, temperment and I have high hopes for him.
If we were to keep him as a stallion does any one know that he'd pass on the blue eye?
I have also seen the eye change and get darker as they get older - Has any one else ?

Ammevo, I have a mare with one blue eye and her daughter has a very unusual one eye- half blue and half brown, the other is brown. The stallion is had brown eyes. Her last years son by a different stallion has two brown eyes but was born with very light coloured almost ginger eyes (by a stallion with brown eyes) The mare is grey/ daughter grey/ stallion grey. Yarling is chestnut by grey stallion. So it seems that blue eyes pass on at random and that light eyes can go darker. This I realsie is no help at all - but a possibly interesting observation!!

There is a saying that a horse/pony with blue eyes can see into the soul of a human ,so if you do have one with blue eyes be a nice person ..
