I have a four year old neutered moggie who is the nicest softest cat I ever owned. But my husband hates him! (Its jealousy, sad git) He makes my cat nervous and although the cat is out at night, he has a litter tray in the hall, but he would rather wait until morning to use his litter tray soon after coming in. If he cant get to his litter tray (if door shut) rather than ask to go out he uses whatever corner he can! Which is as you will understand causing discord! Any ideas to encourage him to "go" outside?

Personally I would make sure he can access a litter tray when he wants to, rather that than let him get into the habit of using a corner, if he continues to do this you may find it very hard to persuade him that it's not his toilet area. He may be more inclined to 'go' outside when/if the weather improves.

He definitely needs access to his litter tray at all times. You can't blame him for having accidents in the house of he doesn't. It's normally cats that won't use a litter tray that its suggested to mix a bit of soil in to encourage them to use it, maybe it might have the opposite effect of you tried it and get him use to soil and therefor encourage him to go outside

I have two house cats - both nearly 13 - one is going a bit senile bless him and uses his litter tray a lot more than he used to. They have access to the litter tray at all times when shut in the house. If yours has access to the tray and isn't using I suggest putting some of what he leaves in corners into the tray - that might give him the idea! It certainly works if you are litter training a kitten!

Also like to add that when you clean his corners, use biological washing liquid (for clothes) as the enzymes in it will break down the scents he leaves which encourage him to return to those areas. Good luck.
