I want to change my showing hat as I really don't like the fit of my CO Show jumper. It moves around and I can fit fingers between hat and head. I have tried the CO Fiona and it doesn't fit the shape of my head. I quite like the look of the gatehouse hickstead, however as there are no stockists near me I am a bit confused about sizing. Due to the fact that my CO is 60cm and my champion hat is 57cm, so I imagine hat sizes vary between brands. I have measured my head and it is 57cm. Any opinions on the HIckstead? Or any suggestions of other hat types? I want it to be neat as my CO looks large...

Charles Owen H200?
I have the fiona which fits me much better than my H2000 in the same size so they're obviously different shapes!

The gatehouse hickstead is very narrow so it depends why the fiona does not fit you... The fiona is rounder. The sjxp sounds far too big as although the Champion vent air comes up big it would never vairy by three sizes... Have you tried a wellington or hampton both are suitable show hats in a diffrent shape.. If you measure a 57 you would normally round up to allow for the hat to go onto the head (think or it like two coconut halfs) one needs to be bigger than the other..ie the hat! what classes do you what to do? do you need the height of a h2000, h2000sq, fiona or Hickstead or would one of the lower profile helmets look better? if you pm me with where you live I can put you in touch with your local trained hat fitter.

Ah I see, thankyou. When I tried the fiona it was tight around my forehead and pretty uncomfortable however there was a gap at the sides so i'm guessing my head isn't round... I do Intermediates and PBA, and live in Salisbury, Wiltshire. We haven't been able to find many shops that have any options. They all seem to sell just the SJ or just the fiona so haven't been able to compare shapes.

your best bet from there is to travel to either aivily in ringwood or Wadswick both have large ranges... they are also fully trained I would suggest that you the h2000 but if the fiona is really tight at the front you would still get a nicer picture in this hat as its by far the most neat in shape so its a option to go up a size in length and then have the helmet custom altered through the sides (the hat fitters are trained to do this) feel free to pm me for further suggestions should you struggle or if these shops are to far but I would say that its worth a drive to try on a full range in a number of brands.

Well our trip was thoroughly unsuccessful. The hickstead didn't fit, and the fiona apparently didn't go far enough down the back of my head, so she suggested she packed a 62cm hat to fit my 57cm head as that was the only one that reached far enough down my head. I couldn't be bothered as it looked no different to my other hat, so i guess i shall continue riding with a bucket on my head...
