I have just bought a welsh section C (she's about 13 hands) and need a new saddle suitable for showing. (I have a fylde majorie but that's no good as it lifts at the back) I would like a fylde showing saddle, ideally second hand. I would appreciate your recommendations of which you use and why and also, what size I should be looking for when choosing a second hand one..?
My last pony came with a made to measure saddle so have never had to buy one before!
Thanks in advance x

Fylde samantha for me everytime! I am currently searching for another one for my section C mare. I had a 17inch on my section c and fitted him perfectly some people may think this is to big but it was checked by a saddle fitter who said it was perfect for him. Just make sure if you buy one second hand you get a saddle fitter to double check it fits correctly.

I have generally found that the Hayden's and Samantha's are better for a flat backed, low withered type, and Marjorie's for those with more whither and "shape"... Do you have any friends with different styles of Fylde you can try on to see, or are you near enough to nip over to peter wilkinsons to try a few? (Or check with him to see which shows he's at in the near future, he normally carries a good variety of stock). Also, as Fylde saddles can be quickly adjusted it may be worth getting him to look at it - if it's lifting at the back it sounds too wide (ie tipping down at whithers), maybe possible to tweak it it fit...??
Good luck

Thanks very much for your advice. I think I will look out for a Samantha as they look a bit comfier than the hayden. I will go for 17'' as well as my Marjorie is that and it looks fine length wise.
(Can't alter my Marjorie as it's used on my other pony and it fits him perfectly.)
In terms of width, how do you decide whether to go for medium, medium/wide or wide...? and if you get it wrong, can Peter alter them to suit?
Thanks again x

Measure your Marjorie to see what width it is D to D ring. That will give you an estimate of how wide you need it.
Peter at fylde can adjust them easily for you. The section C stallion I had was in XW he was pretty wide..
