my little girl has started to ride (she is just 2) and loves it, i have got her a handle for the saddle and i tie knots in her reins but she is for ever dropping them we plan to do a couple of local shows this year,i have seen some people tie the reins back to the saddle in the ring when tots are riding is this ok to do? (if i was to do this then it would only be done on a loose rein and not tied back tight!!)

Not sure on the rein problem, but I'm sure a lot of shows/riding clubs etc wont allow your daughter to ride as she is 2, a lot of them require the rider to be 3 for insurance reasons

I'm no help, my two year old mainly doesn't hold his reins at all, he has too many tractors/cows/sheep in his hands to hold reins! Despite this, he still does not want to be on the lead rein, because he is a Big Boy. Luckily we have the world's most fab pony. I would have thought that the type of classes you would be allowed to take a 2 year old into, it wouldn't matter all that much.

Check the schedules hun, my daughter isnt 3 until the end of April, and is desperate to do shows! All the local ones near us say she has to be 3, and affiliated is 3 before the 1st of January On the reins I was planning to knot them (they are really thin) and have my daughter hold them with her little handle, thats the best way I have found x

You can't tie the reins to the saddle! You can have knots but I think most affiliated rules say reins have to go directly to hands, think most affiliated you can now have handlemacross front ofmsaddle

Our local RC allowed Cerys to do classes when she was just 2 - not sure whether the rules have changed since then, she's 9 now, so it was a while ago. I used to tie the reins in a big knot so she could either hold the end or just not bother - it was obvious that the reins weren't tied to keep the pony in an outline (pony never went in an outline!) and we only did Bonny Pony, so no one ever challenged the tack.
As has been said, some RCs don't allow under 3s - I even came across one that didn't allow under 4s because of their insurance. Affiliated shows definitely don't allow jockeys under 3.
Good luck - hope you find some lovely friendly shows to enjoy and have fun with your daughter!

Our local riding club does tiny tots lead rein as well. Reins are not allowed to be tied to the saddle. My daughter used to drop her reins, not hold them at all etc! I did persuade her to hold them when she walked and hold the handle on the shetty's saddle when she trotted, usually the reins got dropped!! They all go through it ;D

We use to do the novelties.. ie bonny pony .. nicest tail, best cleanest.. for our little girl my hubby used to lead and I walked at the side if she needed me we used a cub saddle with the handle until she was ready to do the big classes. which wasn't long as she found the novelties boring once she had worked out she could do her up/downs think she was 3 then and 4 when she went into the proper lead rein classes.. oh if your pony is quiet maybe have a go at handy pony.. the kids love it and it get the ponies more used to other things too. Most of all enjoy it

Check the rules as they are very varied between show societies. Some do not allow stitching and tying to shorten reins, some allow a handle on front of saddle and there are strict rules as to age of child and leader. All very confusing
