I know it’s extremely bad luck but has anyone already decided on names for their 2013 little ones??

We usually have seven or eight foals due so if I think of a name it gets written in a book and then I will see if it fits a particular foal. Must admit if one comes out the right sex and colour I have a belting name ready for it but yes, that is tempting fate!!!

Nothing definite, and it will depend on sex and colour too but I do mostly name them with themes for each family so often have a list of possibles, maybe only in my head though! I have one name that I've been waiting for years to have a foal to give it too, could be this year.

Well I'll admit it - Ive got a name for my little one (touch wood all goes ok at the birth) it can be for a colt of filly (it's actually a male meaning name but sounds more like a female name to me) so will good either way ... but until we have foaley on the ground

I can't even begin to think of a name every time I start it stresses me out lol. My sister wants a Greek god but with mare and stallion being welsh I though we should go down that route. All so complicated lol

Got a few names thought of, will wait to see if they suit the foals when theyre born.
I dont believe for one minute thinking of a name is bad luck.

I have chosen a name which will suit either but will choose a stable name once everything is ok and I know what it is.
Getting near now :-)

Aww thanks guys for the suggestions :-) Funny you should say Lucy Locket Milliesmum as the mare is Lucy Locket. Pocket Rocket sound great though I usually call all my foals names beginning with P no idea why but narrows the choices down a bit. Both parents are section A's Victoria, the stallion is Vervale Grenade and the mare is Dragonsfire Lucy Locket. Lol Swampy loving Out Of Pocket as thats all we are with these ponies eh haha ;D

When I started having more As I decided naming should be simpler and foals' names would start with dam's initial. I then managed to aquire a Q and a Y, mind you each only had one foal, not for naming reasons though, just coincidence! Somehow I have managed to depart from that principle and currently am thinking up jewels, plants beginning with a C, and alcoholic drinks. Hey ho.

Not thinking of names for this year, as having no foals, but am thinking of names for 2014! We use year letters, so if we have any will be 'G', and we have up until not been using birds' names, apart from OH's mare, who's foal is given whatever random name beginning with the year letter that pops in to his head - 2011's was Delilah! Not feeling very inspired with birds beginning with G, Grouse, and er, Grouse! Maybe Goldfinch if we got a yellow dun.

If you want to use a P why not use Pendock or Penual (both of those are from the stallions family tree?) Not sure what you could use though haha Pendock Kitty (kitty taken from the lucy locket song?) Penual Kitty? Pendock Yankee Doodle (from song used in lucy locket?) x

We had terrible trouble with last years foals (our first). Ended up with Pencaedu Solid Gold (as in worth her weight in gold due to the £2k vet bill), and Pencaedu High Flyer (OMG can she buck)!!

For Welshies Loulabelle, try the welsh gods, they're easy to find on google!

For Welshies Loulabelle, try the welsh gods, they're easy to find on google! My sister will be pleased with any type of god I think. I did think about ambitious lady or ambitious laddie taken from dad and mum as all ladys female relations have lady in the name. but haven't come up with a prefix as of yet we just can't find one to suit and our farm is already taken by a Shetland stud. Ill have a look at welsh gods

We have been asked (perhaps dared!) to call one of our 2013 foals, Hoof Hearted. Say it quickly and it sounds like you are saying something else. We simply haven't the nerve to do it but I'm sure some horsegossiper will know of someone who has used this name in the past!
