Been a job on my list now for a long while but now we have a foaly due ive just got round to registering my prefix.
Kind of makes it all a bit real and exciting now.
Its with the WPCS for now and will sort with the DPS next year.
Got the babies name for a boy or girl but not revealing till its on the ground and healthy.

It is a nice moment when you get the certificate back confirming your prefix.

OK, this is going to sound really dumb but not had a foal before - could someone please explain? Is it something everyone does or just if you're say breeding and want to use the same first name ie... VICTORIAS WISH, VICTORIAS SECRET? x

In theory, you could still use the same first name even if you didn't register the prefix, but it only cost us £70 through WP&CS to register it - you have to pay more to extend it to other societies. If you go the route of not registering the prefix, it may be a good idea to check that what you want to use as the 'first' name isn't already in use as a prefix, to avoid confusion. You can do that online.

A prefix is really equivalent to your surname, and is used for all horses and ponies you breed. Once registered it is exclusive to you and no-one else can use it, which wouldn't be the same if you don't register it, and in that case you wouldn't be allowed to register ponies using it if it was already someone's registered prefix, if all that makes sense.

As long as you aren't using anything that appears like a prefix that is already registered.

its a prefix so needs to go infront of the name, sorry if ive got this wrong, but are you wanting ali? so for example say you had a foal and wanted to call it buttons, it would be Ali Buttons. x

But she doesn't want a registered prefix, so I should have thought OK at the end as part of the name? I look forward to hearing about the first Millwillow foal loulabelle!
Victoria, you were originally talking about something in front and not afterwards, which is a different thing altogether. I think you'd have to talk to whoever you will be registering the foal with.

It would depend if there is a horse already registered with the name you choose, eg I bought a coloured weanling a few years ago and had to apply for her passport myself (it was at the time they were just being introduced). I chose a name and put it on the registration details for CHAPS but got a call to say she would be called the XIX because 18 people had already used that name. If I had bred the pony, then I could have used my prefix in front of my chosen name and it would have become unique. If you are registered with a breed society though, they all tend to have their own rules over and above the Central Prefix Register so it is likely worth asking the relevant society secretary for advice before filling in registration papers. I hope that makes sense, but I'm just out of a LONG meeting at work so I could be rambling. Feel free to ask if something needs more explanation.

Oh lord, Im getting confused …
I want to call my horse Tamanni Ali.
My mare is called Sophia Ali (pure bred arab) and the stallion is called Wolkenderry (Hanovarian)so obviously a cross breed.
I’m assuming I’ll get the foal registered as a part bred Hanovarian or part bred arab then get my passport cross stamped (that correct?).
The name Tamanni means “Wish” in Arabic (Wish is the stable name of Wolkenderry) and the Arabic is due to her being an arab. The Ali was just to keep in with my mare’s name.
More than likely I won’t be breeding another foal from the mare but there is a slight (and I mean slight) possibility of having a pure bred foal in future (shes straight Egyptian).
I cant find anything on that prefix website for the name Tamanni - do I contact the two above societies still?
xx

If you want to pay to register it as a prefix yes but give which ever society a call before hand to see what there policy I regarding prefixes as they are all different. You can with some societies get away with picking your chosen prefix once before having to register it but then someone might copy it and register it. Does that make sense. X

I cant find anything on that prefix website for the name Tamanni - do I contact the two above societies still? xx I would, unless you don't mind roman numerals being added to the name if it is already in use. The name I used for my coloured was Pollyanna (which I admit is likely to be more popular than your Tamanni, lol!) and if you do a search on that on CPR, it says there is nothing with that name.....but that means there is no-one with that name registered as a prefix. With CHAPS, there were already several Pollyanna's so my girl would have been Pollyanna XIX (or something like that) and I didn't want the roman numerals so I changed it to Pollyanna Pastime and that was approved. Your chosen name may be unusual enough not to have any roman numerals, I'm just flagging it up as a possibility.

Personally I'd go for Arab society then you can do all the PBA classes etc. I think you might be limited with Hanoverian. I may be very wrong. If your wanting to a show see what classes are about, you will probably get a nice riding horse or hack as dont know how heavy the stallion is. X
