Just thought I would ask some advice on this, our grey B's mane is fading fast He is on my signature. It is still very dark in places but I was thinking of trying to colour it back to being very dark.. Has anyone else done this & what do you use?

Hi, have seen a pony at the local shows which had its mane and tail dyed black, it looked awful and fake. I would leave as it is.

There was a very well known lead rein pony that started the season snow white, then went grey mid way through!! I think that pony had been to the colourist!!!!

the best colour to use is 'just for men'- it even covers white legs
make sure you do a patch test first- and leave it on for 5 mins longer
DON'T- use wash-in wash out as it runs off in rain and gets on judges hands

i wouldnt do it EVER. especially now you have asked about it on an open forum where people know who you are, there will be complaints from someone as it is against the breed rules. if you have a good pony, it will stand out no matter what colour it is.

We were asked to do it on a friends pony a few years ago that wasn't disimilar looking to yours. It looked absolutely awful when it was done and really fake looking as it was a very solid black colour, whereas naturally they always have lighter and darker shades through them. It also stained the pony's neck and bottom (we did the teail as well) - it was a complete disaster, so I would recommend from experience - leaving well alone. Your pony looks fab as it is !!!

Colouring ponies never works! Had a worker years ago who had a freeze brand on his neck, had a bash at colouring it as it bugged me and it turned green!!!!! Gave up and let him go in the ring with his number! Didn't stop him winning HOYS- if they are good enough it does not matter.

Please dont, he should be as natural as possible, if the pony is greying out, so be it IMHO

lol Ok I will consider myself told I used to be a hairdresser & had been told to use Just for Men. Was just going to do a few strands in it as I didn't want it to be completely black & I was never going to do the tail away Thanks for your advice anyway

I have been thinking about doing it for a long time but still haven't & was just asking what people thought in general & did they do it. Decided I won't bother anyway, it actually looks darker on pics for some reason which is a good thing lol

A very well known producer i know did not like the blaze his riding horse had and used moustache colouring to make it equal both sides. It worked beautifully and nobody ever knew. It was made by the people who make the grey-not-grey stuff for men. Boots sell it.
