There is a fun ride going on in the locality tomorrow about 4 miles away. The route is planned by pink arrows. Now I've just gone outside to check my mare whose heavily In foal and the pink arrows go round two sides of her field! Now I'm pretty pi**ed off if I'm honest. Some warning other than pink arrows would have been good. As you can imagine if I'd have Put her out tomorrow morning and gone out or not seen the masses of horses going past there would have been potential there for an accident. Should we be warned. I know it's public roads but surely it's common courtesy. As I've had an incident before with a horses being turned out. Last time it was with the hunt but same principle. Moan over.

we get advised by the local hunt when in the area and also by local rally driving group, whoever put up the pink arrows could have easily put a note through your door so I think you entitled to have a rant

I have the same problem with the hunt. They never let me know and I have a stallion and colts in my field.

Her stable is a stone throw from the road as well as least she won't be able too see anything but I still think its going to cause some upset for her. Nothing I can do now as short notice.

If my local hunt is coming as near as a mile away one of the Masters always rings. You should definitely been warned. Would complain to the people responsible.

Agree with above, just good manners to let you know.

I used to have the same issue with our local branch of the endurance people - they don't dare not to let me know now The only thing I can suggest at this late stage is a) going to the parking site first thing & speaking to the organisers about it - both to voice your concerns & point out that if she does slip her foal they will be getting the bills from the point of covering onwards and b) ask them to put stewards at points around her stable if you're going to keep her in (which I think would be safer) so that they can make everyone go past at a walk and you probably also need to be around to ensure this happens. The lack of consideration shown by some people never ceases to amaze me. Of course you could always do what my non horsey neighbour does when he spots the arrows for the endurance lot - he re-directs them ;D

Our local NEVER let you know when they are hunting. Luckily the gamekeeper next door always finds out and lets me know.

Try putting on a radio to muffle the sound, I would also send a strongly worded letter to the organisers and local paper good luck

Agree, put the radio on. Our hunt send me a meet card but to be honest its not worth the paper its written on, they can meet miles away and still end up next to me!! Mine once jumped out when they came by, they had met 9 miles away! Thankfully she went in the opposite direction and ended up at a farm across country rather than following them on the road.
Hope your mare is OK.
Lovebird - where are you, I'm near Gt Barugh.

Well I've got the radio on full blast and I've been sat with her since 10 she's bananas. pacing pawing and screeching. Now has the runs and is sweating up a bit. They are coming past in groups of 2-5 ish and they are going past at flat out trot. It's hard not to notice. They assured me they will all have gone past by 1. I'm ready to self combust with anger.

Loulabelle you have my complete sympathy
The least they owe you is an apology and decent bottle of le plonk, hoping this is a one off and not an annual pilgrimage

They most certainly should have notified you, sometimes I do wonder if people have the brains they were born with. A stiff complaint is required.
I've only ever once done a 'fun' ride and found no fun in it, many went full pelt and overtook at warp speed, I was on a friends ex-racer that spent the entire time plunging and spinning supposed to be the sensible one nannying a youngster. I've never been so knackered, I hurt in places I didn't know existed. No fun in that.
Hope your mare relaxes soon. X

Thanks gillwales, They have them quite often but not round here unless I've been out and not notice but I would have seen the arrows most definitely as we live on a junction. Going to be a long day. Just hope she's ok

She's ok now, she was a bit stressy for the rest of the day and I had a lot of poo to clear from everywhere. Just glad I saw the arrows and didn't put her out seeing what she was like in the stable
