I have an 18 year old m & m type gelding who I compete at riding club level in wh classes and ridden veteran. When I'm competing on grass he is usually fine and doesn't spook. But when I'm riding indoors he is fine on the go round and over the course of jumps but when I do my individual show he can be so spooky, it's not that he's not use to being ridden in an indoor because up to 10 months ago when we moved yards all we had was an indoor. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do to stop this? Or no of a calming supplement that might help him relax without making him lazy as he's not always the most forward going. Any ideas really appreciated

Have used anxicalm in similar situations. Details below: Nutriscience Anxikalm Gel 2x 60ml (Equine) Anxicalm A concentrated and rapidly absorbed oral gel makes this an ideal 'stand alone' calmer when only occasional use is required. Effective across a broad spectrum of horses and ponies. This paste is recommended for particularly stressful situations.

Indoor arenas do vary - some have spooky galleries or stuff piled up in corners, any amount of possible reasons for spookiness. Maybe trying to go to things (dressage? clinics?) in as many different ones as possible would help to desensitise him. Or maybe you have a "thing" about the show now and he feels your nerves? In which case Rescue Remedy for you, not him!

My pony was the same but instead of spooking just gets excited and runs off - which is normal in most cases anyway but if there is an indoor arena where you tend to do the most shows maybe during the holidays try hiring the indoor arena out and take him so there is no atmosphere and just a calm work out as that way he gets used to being ridden in the arena without an atmosphere so then he stays calmer when there is an atmosphere at shows!
