My bit*h is 15 months old and hasn't had a season yet.
I've read quite alot about it but wondered if anyone had any ideas on this. She seems very jumpy. When my dad and 2yr old niece came round yesterday she seemed wary which isn't like her but she has been to the vets a couple of times (ear infection and eye infection) and was very jumpy and nervous then. Shes a sweet dog and has never shown any nastiness, even though shes jumpy ect she's never growled. She seems quite sleepy and is licking quite alot so I presumed she was coming in to season but shes not swollen at all so this confuses me??? Any ideas? Do you think she is coming in to season? Shes a dogue de bordoux x so a medium size dog about 25kg. Any experiences would be appreciated.

As she is quite a big breed she may not have a season until about now. It could even be that he has had one without you noticing, sometimes the first season is so discrete that its hard to notice. The licking could indicate her season is on its way. I'm sure she will have one soon, keep an eye on her and contact vets for further advice if your still worried. Hope that helps a little

Thanks for that. She did have a tiny bit of blood on Monday morning but it's stopped again now. She doesn't seem as sleepy now she's back to her naughty self lol. She hasn't been swollen really but not taking her on the park just incase lol. I want to get her 'done' as soon as I can so will wait and see if anything else happens in the next week or so :-)

My daughter has an American Bulldog and she has just had her first season at the age of 2, we were getting slightly worried but the vet says that this can be quite normal.

I have 2 dogue de bordeauxs and both were over 12 .months before their first season. It's quite common in large breeds, they take lot longer to mature.

They don't need to come into season to be spayed. Females can be spayed from 6 months, although I did read that for some larger breeds of dog they advise a bit later. I would speak to your vet and see what he/she says.

I have been speaking to the vets regularly and they wanted to wait for her to have her 1st season.

large breeds of dogs dont start to come in to season until 18m -2yrs so shes normal , sounds like shes having her first season . note the date and book her in for spay in 12 weeks from her last season .
