My cake (ginger) stuck to the tin. It is ruined. I tried to stick it together with icing, but it looks like a dog has tried to eat it. It hasn't. I am now upset, as I attempted to make the cake to cheer my husband up, who is feeling very down due to family issues. Now I must present him with a mangled cake..... I don't think it will do the trick That is all folks

Serve it warm with custard over it! My kids ate jam rolly poly last week, which looked disgusting without the custard cover!

Meh, I started eating it. He saw it this morning, had a giggle (so it did kind of cheer him up!) and we will have it with custard later I think. It tastes lovely! Just looks terrible!!! Thanks for all the suggestions!

Well at least he didn't say when offered a piece of cake that a friend made for family birthday - 'how come he doesn't get a flat birthday cake' I am a lousy baker - no idea what I do wrong but they turn out inedible every time

Normally, I make good and presentable cakes. My icing skills are rudimentary, but I subscribe to the "apply with a trowel" school of thought. I blame the tin........ And perhaps the golden syrup in the recipe...... But definitely NOT my hasty and possibly uneven greasing skills.......

We have a wonderful piece of cookware which looks as if made of black rubber but is totally heatproof, non stick, dishwasher safe and generally wonderful. No greasing required, I'd back "tin" against any cake, golden syrup or not!
Our bit is flat and used in the top oven of the Aga for pizza, stuff like fish fingers etc usually fried on a hob, although it took my husband some time to trust it not to melt, it looks as if it would.

Is that the silicone type ones? I intended to buy one yesterday, but they had no cake shaped ones! I will be investing in a silicone cake tin (?) but I also like my springform one. Its usually fine.....

I got some of those cake tin liners after having one or two 'issues' with my non-stick tins. Never have a problem now!

Not liners, but actual vessels for cooking in. Had lunch with my sister today - I gave her some last Christmas and she raves about them. Sounds like the silicon ones you mentioned nia2311.

I got a black silicon bun/pudding tin (cup cakes if you don't call 'em buns anymore ) its pretty good for not sticking. The liners I got sarahp are basically greaseproof paper in whatever shape/size your tins are.

I've got some of the silicone ones too - bun tins, loaf tins and standard round cake tins, as well as one shaped like a teddy - they are excellent.

We ate the broken one and then I made another, but this time used lining paper for the tin. Perfection!! I went to buy some silicon tins, but could only find them for buns, not actual tins. Where did you lot buy the silicon ones from?? I'd like round ones in 7in and 9in and either a loaf tin one, or a square one.......

Hey atleast you didn't get teaspoon and table spoon muddled up, must say a tablespoon of bicarbonate soda and one of baking powder is quite disgusting in cake! (First hand experience here baking isn't my strong point!!)
