It is more expensive then open Hoys classes ,, some times the judges give constructive criticism sometimes they just talk utter sh1te tbh ,, I went last yr came 6 th out of 18 cobs was told to come back next yr as my lad was only just 4 then and was told come back next year and ill give u a Hoys ticket , needless to say I'm going next Sunday to Onley to see how we do fingers xd

The judging is very fair. The judges like a true to type of which ever section toy enter eg if you entered a hunter class the like 'true to type' hunters. In 2010 I qualified at my first ever search for a star with my show pony who I'd only had 3 months before. And at Hoys we got fantastic comments and he won his class at Hoys too!

It's a few years ago now but we had a 158cm worker and she missed out on qualifying in the workers in 3rd place by 1 Mark, didn't know whether to laugh or cry lol. I was also worried about her height but she was a quality pony and she was marked as such. So I wouldn't be worried about height, just go and enjoy yourself but as others say it's quite expensive to enter. Good luck x Edited to say David Bartram was ride judge and gave good marks, just make sure your leathers and irons are suitable for a man with possibly long legs and wider feet!

I can honestly say I am normally a very up beat, tunned in person with plenty of enthusiasmn however last year we missed the closing date for entries for Badgeworth SEIB Qualifiers by a day (totally my fault) paid the extra entry fee and set off for Badgeworth Arena with our 17.3hh Hunter mare early in the morning along with my husband groom Tony. To be brutely honest I was still slightly negative about competing as we had been placed third the previous year in the hunter class and just missed qualifying. At 6.00am travelling over the Severn Bridge from South Wales all I could think about was us paying for a wasted journey over the Severn Bridge crossing on the way back more than likely having an 'ok' day with my husband totally oblivious to my then thoughts!
Our class was the Hunter section which was split (we won our section which was fantastic) however three from both sections went back in to compete for the two HOYS places. My thoughts were 'here we go again' as the previous year we had won our section and been placed third. Our mare 'Monster' rode fab we won the class - we were speechless and over the moon. We went on to win the Hunter section at HOYS and totally shocked but estatic we won the Championship. An amazing experience that we will never ever forget.
I would say to anyone thinking about entering do it as you will never know unless you take part. Yes it was expensive for Tony and myself as we only have a jeep and trailer and hired a lorry for four days at HOYS. I have been to watch but Tony had never been to HOYS before what a visit for him even though he had the massive blisters from regimental walking from stable to lorry to arena!! Worth it absolutely.

Everyone has different experiences. You won't know unless you try it!
