Our 3 yr old filly was quite a character, when she was a foal we showed her and 3 times out of the 4 we were placed ., When she was a yearling she was always around us and if my son was on his bike in the field Lily would follow like a dog, if hubby had his head in the tractor so would she , she would pick up tools and walk off with them, she would chase anyone strange out of field, and if we lite fires she'd be there never afraid of it, she was so loving, just like an over grown dog? I had come home from work and was doing the horses and noticed she not eaten her food from the morning, i called out the vet "he said colic" and injected her and took blood tests. He called out 4 more days and she had'nt eaten anything for most of them , the blood tests was clear, though she had a temperture, he tube her and said he'd get second oppinion on her? she got extremley worse and by the 7th day she had'nt eaten or drank, i got up early and phoned the vet to come out as she was losing blood thru her nose he called and said he just did'nt know what to suggest, i broke my heart , she could not starve to death i could'nt watch that, so i made the painful decission to put her to sleep. He injected her and told me to get out of the way as she would fall on me but she got down and i sat with her i'd swear to this day it was tears coming down her face, her head in my lap she died. The main vet phone me on the Monday morning to say they were,nt sure what she had died from but they said they thought grass sickness? though i had 7 more horses who were perfectly healthy my trust in vets ended. She has been gone 10yrs and though we've had other foals by her mum nothing has ever touched our lives like her our lovely lily.

Im So sorry you lost your lilly :-( It must be something to do will fillys called lilly? I bought a yearling by the name of lilly she also had a mistery illness her gums vent blue , her hair all fell out she lay on the floor and wouldnt eat. My vet told me I would never save her. I took the bull by the horns! I could not loose her. I stayed with her and pumped her full of antibiotics and poured glucose down her throat. As I got her to eat again then she had colic. Now Im pleased to say she has just been broken and will be going to her first shows. Its very hard to make the right call and they will always brake your heart. I Have just lost my warmblood mare at 41 yrs and Im still upset. All my horses become pets so the bond is far closer.

I forgot to say !! She behaved like a dogs. Walked round the garden and chases us or plays ball. Came in the house a few times, sleeps and snores all day opens doors, locks people out the horse box. Never know what she will do next???
