So after reading a thread further down and people saying no to bakers dog food I then googled in and OMG my dogs are coming off it now!! BUT the question is what to feed now? I have a Chihuahua who loves to run and play and a 9yr old JR who has a quieter life. Buddy (my Chihuahua) needs a small dog food as he can't eat big bit with his little mouth and I'd like to keep Stella (My JR) on a senior food. So, what is best to feed??

I used to have a pet shop I recommend eukanuba or arden grange if you look at the ingredients on the side the first ingredient will either be ride maize or wheat you want it to be a meat as the first ingredient is the most if you understand? Better value for money you could say?

I agree with Sundance, I used to work at an animal feed merchants, and meat percentage often indicates a better food. My Bichon is on Royal Canin Junior and looks fab on it x

My lab is on Wainwrights from Pets at Home. It's their own version of James Wellbeloved. I also ditched Bakers a few years back after reading about it.

My shih Tzu has been on proplan senior since she was 7 and is nearly 15 now and you wouldn't think so to look at her! My large dogs are on arden grange.

Millie had a large stone in her bladder which needed surgery, I was told by the vet it was diet related - she was on Bakers. She now has Royal Canin urinary, which helps to prevent the build up of stones, as recommended by the vet.
Basically look at the ingredients on the bag. For instance if it says chicken and rice on the bag, the first two ingredients should say chicken and rice. The higher up the list of ingredients something is, the more of it there is in the food.

I have always sworn by Burns, all our dogs for years have lived it, but they have recently reformulated it with less meat. I'm on my second big bag, but still evaluating the new version! All ours on it lived to a ripe old age looking fit and well, not overweight, with bright eyes and good coats.

Why don't you feed raw food? I used to feed ProPlan but I'm a real raw convert xx

I agree, raw. My lot are on Natural Instinct and they have never looked better! I also cook them vegetables. One of my dogs is nearly 17 and nobody can believe it she is so active and she looks so well. One of mine is a Chihuahua and she woofs the raw down!

My old cavalier had pedigree chum and I know that's not great food but she was never ill, never went to the vets in her life and she passed away at 15!! Saying that my puppy cocker is on James well beloved and she loves it and haven't had any problems with it

Raw. Mine has shin from the Butchers and mince and liver from Tesco. It works out sooo much cheaper than buying dog food and at 13 yrs old he still thinks he is a puppy.

My dog and my parents' dog both have fickle tummies and we buy CSJ dog food (kibble) and have no problems. The wet dog food that vets recommend is Chappie. I always have a tin in in case my dog has an upset tummy. It is bland and contains no rubbish. Cost effective too.

I have two large dogs, one a lurcher one a rottie cross. I find Arden Grange has been really good, I buy the 15kg breeder lamb and rice packs. The rottie we got as a rehome and came with her normal dog food which was a cheap brand, she had a very greasy smelly coat but after a couple of weeks and a change of food the smell and the grease disappeared.
