I have a 11 year old pony who is quite is quite new to showing and yesterday i took her to an indoor show under saddle. She had never been to this show before, but she has been in an indoor arena in hand as a 3 year old (from what i've been told by her previous owners)- but to be fair to her, that was ages ago. She really panicked when she first entered and completely lost concentration and she just began snorting at everything around her (Arena letters, the judges ect) and she became very 'full on' and by this i mean, she was ready to go! i had to hold her back and then when the judge asked us to canter on in a group, she bolted. I've had everything checked on her! back, teeth, saddle ect. I believe this is just due to lack of experience, but what tips would you give me if she becomes very full on? she was very hard work to manage and she became very strong. She can sometimes do this out hacking too, which again is something i only did with her when i'd got her as her previous owners didn't do.

I would get her out to some clinics so she gets used to going out in different surroundings . Then she can get used to going indoors and it dosnt matter so much if she plays up at first , hopefully by the end of the clinic she will have settled and be a lot calmer .

Just read back and realised she is 11 so if she went to an indoor show at 3 thats was ages ago . Could you perhaps book some time at a local indoor arena a few times , im sure that would really help

you could hire the indoor and go with a few friends and then all practise your shows and line up etc or could you not just take her to shows but not compete and have a ride round warm up arenas so she gets used to atmosphere? this is what i did with my novice c who would just end up completly unfocused! good luck and hope she chills out
