Have any of your neighbours got cats? Chances are if they have, they will have a basket that you can put the cat in. I'd suggest a pair of leather gloves in case of scratches, and perhaps tempting the cat with food, if it's been around for a while it will be hungry.

Maybe try cats protection league, have you contacted local vets see if anyone had reported one missing or see of they'd be willing to catch it and see if it got a micro chip. Does it look injured? Is so RSPCA may respond then

RSPCA are loathe to try to help 'domestic' animals these days. Try your local branch of the Cats Protection League - they usually have some humane traps that they can lend out - make sure any cats you have are shut up overnight! Put some food on the tray in the trap & leave near where the cat is hiding. Hopefully in the morning you'll have a captured cat & the one you want! There is no need to handle the cat which may be distressed & then you can either take it direct to CPL or they will collect from you. We tend to cover the trap with a blanket or similar to calm them & you can carefully poke food through the mesh if there's going to be a delay in removal but not too much in case it overloads the stomach & it's then sick. Has the cat been able to get access to water at all? If it's a long hair it will probably have been dumped as people don't realise how time consuming they can be to keep in good condition.

Oh & I never handle any of the strays that get dumped here, - regardless of whether they're friendly or not - you never know if they're suddenly going to turn on you & an infected cat scratch or bite can really set you back.
Any that get dumped here get trapped & removed (the clearly feral cats go straight to the vet to be tested for a chip (never ever had one with one in) & usually pts as our CPL is over run with feral cats they can't rehome) CPL usually pay for it if they know in advance but we'll pay for it ourselves as well if we've any money that month.

What is update on on your bush kitty? Have just been reading your thread and wondering how you got on as it is a while since you posted. Just curious, as I love cats and couldn't stop thinking about it. Hope all turned out well for all of you.
