has anyone used these,what do you think of them,im considering using them but im not convinced enough to use them yet,would handling the teat of the mare often not make it sore for them...

The foal will be much rougher with the teat than you would be ;-) On the other hand, I know several mares that are fine with foals but would kill me if I fiddled with their teats!

I haven't used them, but I think you squeeze a sample of milk from the mare onto a strip (a treated strip? or dip it in something? not sure!) to compare the pH against a standard set of values, and this can give an indication of when she will foal, as it alters depending on how close she is.
