Hi was just wondering when my mares first season should be after foaling thought it was 3 weeks i know all mares not the same. Thank you.

A mare's 'foaling heat' is usually about ten to twelve days after foaling.

The foaling heat is usually around 5 - 10 days from the day of foaling and then the first proper season should follow the usual cycle after that.

10 days after foaling is a good time to cover.

Don't rely on that though - I used to have one who came on after 2/3 days from foaling! There isn't really a "should", more of an average, and best to watch and try them if you need to know.

That's what mine normally do.I reckon 8th day after foaling and they are in! However- I did have a mare who had a still born foal and she came on heat ( and was covered) 3 days after the birth.
