So my little girly was born this morning but was concerned that milk was coming out other nose and she was crackling. Vets been there is no cleft palate. He thinks she has minor throat paralysis. The majority of milk is going down just some is coming out of her nose. He's not to concerned. Anyone else had this and does it disappear he's just told me to keep an eye on her. He is more than happy with size of her and amount she is drinking but I don't feel very reassured.

Hi I had a foal a few years ago that had milk coming down her nose but seemed otherwise fine. Like you I was worried but she went on to be totally fine. It was a few years ago now so can't remember exactly when it stopped I'm afraid, but she definitely did it for at least a day, maybe even a few days in reducing amounts. Hope this helps!

Thank you that's reassuring. Vet think due to being such a big foal she might have had a leg in the way in the womb or when she's come out she's had a bit of trauma to the throat. To be honest she's thriving but I can tell the milk keep running is irritating her and causing her to sneeze and cough. The crackling has improved a bit.

I had a foal with milk coming down her nose but basically it wasn't due to her inability to swallow it was due to the fact that the mare had so much milk that it was coming far too fast. She had such a huge udder that if you just touched it the milk was shooting out in jets and just kept coming. After a few days it sorted itself out and no damage done.
