Just wondered if you could help with what these are, there are two pregnant mares due in 5 1/2 weeks, one has white spots on her teats. They look a bit fungally, had a close look on Sunday and they came off with bits of mud stuck, however by Monday they were back. The other mare doesnt have any but she is more obviously in foal. They live out with a 3 year old filly who also seems to have these white bits on her teats, there is no chance she is in foal. I have read somewhere that they could be calcium deposits but surely they would only be on the pregnant mares? Thanks for your help!

Could possibly just be change in hormones? I can only think that's what it could be

Most Mares get white spots on their teats about 4/5weeks from foaling they will go approx 2 weeks before foaling, hope that helpsxxx

Thanks very much! At least that gives a rough indicator as to how close they are!

Apparently they are calcium deposits, some say they are a good indicator as to when they will foal, however mine has had them on and off for three weeks with nothing happening My mare is seven days over now
