Our very small jockey has started riding off the lead. Her feet are almost over the saddle flap but pony still struggles to feel her leg aids. I think a stick to give the pony a little tap on his neck will be the right way to go. She has tiny hands so with the reins there isn't a lot of room. Can anyone recommend a brand or style or just advice?

Be very careful!! There is many a pony that will doodle along sweetly enough for a tiny child on voice alone (when small legs are ineffective) but will react quite differently even if a stick is being carried and not used. Going up a gear or two might not work for your child. Try on the lunge first and also get the pony to go to the voice if legs are not long enough. A little tiny stick to just tap the shoulder may well be enough.

We used to use a showing cane (plain type) cut in half, to use on the shoulder for our old pony for tiny jockeys. He'd only need a little 'prod' then would know they meant to 'up a gear'. He was the type of pony to adapt to the jockey's capabilities though, he'd act like he was carrying glass with the very little ones, put someone more capable on and he'd really up his game.
