I am thinking of entering my pony into the equitation under 12 at warrington horse show, it states that it should be snaffle bridles only, is a wilkie acceptable?

Personally, I wouldn't class a Wilkie as a snaffle it's a gag/leverage bit.

check the rule book of the relevant society that the show is affiliated to. At most showing shows Wilkies are acceptable as a snaffle, but in competition/sports pony classes- dressage bit rules apply. However- you might find that an equitation judge would prefer a "proper" snaffle and you may be marked down compared to the other riders in the class. Might be safer to use another bit.

I would check the rules as I entered my daughter in an equitation class and they did not class a Wilkie as a snaffle if I was you I would take a snaffle with you just to be on the safe side

I agree with rista. I class them as a snaffle and most novice shows do but dressage doesnt. Would probs be safer to use an "actual" snaffle !

A wilkie does not have a snaffle action, that's why it is not allowed for dressage, which is all about progressive and correct schooling. If showing societies choose to allow it in snaffle only classes that's up to them but still doesn't make it a snaffle.
