We seem to have been taken a shine to by some feral cats over the past year or so. The mother always brings me her kittens before she goes off and has another litter!!
Being a softie I have taken some in and feed the others. However, numbers are growing so I have contacted the Cats Protection people and with the help of their feral cat team we are getting them neutered.
We had three done last week and had two 4month old kittens lined up for today. So far we have only managed to trap one, as the other has gone into hiding!!
Original mother cat has disappeared recently so I guess she has a new litter somewhere, only time will tell!!
I had hoped that I could find a home for this pair of kittens but no luck yet. We hand reared another one from this litter when she appeared wandering around the yard at 3 weeks old with no sign of the rest of the family, needless to say she now lives in the house and spends her time annoying the JRT's!!

You should be very proud of yourself for being so caring.

OH thinks I'm nuts but I don't like to think of the life they would lead without extra food. Saying that I don't want to end up feeding hundreds of them, hence getting them 'done'. Feral cats have an awful time of it generally, out in all weathers etc and only 20% of kittens survive to 1 year old.
The ones here have access to my barn but that will have to stop as they keep messing on my hay. I'll wait until the two youngest kittens are a bit older and perhaps let them in my feed room instead. It's the wrong time of year to just turf them out and I couldn't sleep at night.
The guy from Cats Prot is a volunteer for the feral team and works three full days a week, catching cats and taking them away to the vets. He said that he started today at 6.30am!! He won't get back here until about 8 with the kitten he has taken. That's dedication.

I do need home for the kittens but I'm in Cornwall!!
If you are considering having some stable cats please, please contact your local Cats Protection people and find out if they have a feral cats section. They are always looking for people to take on the cats they pick up who aren't allowed to be returned to where they came from or they know of people like me who have some 'extras'!!!

Well, the 2nd kitten went into the trap last night and has gone off to the vets today. She is clearly the runt of the little, very small and has a bit of a respiratory problem.
